Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Medcor Inc., a Chicago company, plans to open an office in Sioux Falls that will offer telephonic triage to workers injured on the job. The office will be in the Foundry Building at 320 S. Phillips Ave., above Duluth Trading Co. It’s expected to open in October.

Anchorage, which launched two years ago in San Francisco, has formed Anchorage Trust Co. The company, which specializes in holding cryptocurrency for clients, has an office at 4901 S. Isabel Place.

Laurie Belle’s Boutique of Tea is expanding to Sioux Falls with a second location, taking over Palmer Lea Boutique’s space at 206 S. Phillips Ave. Palmer Lea owner Kayleen Leonard is pursuing a career in a different field. The store closed Sept. 12, and Laurie Belle owner Laurie Karlson plans to open the downtown location Oct. 1.

Two businesses have opened in Prairie Hills Galleria at 69th and Western. Amazing Lash Studio offers semi-permanent eyelash extensions. The franchise location, which is open daily, is owned by Lisa Wichman and her daughter April Buysse, who is managing it. Leela & Lavender is a North Dakota-based boutique that now has six locations. In addition to women’s clothing, the store sells shoes, accessories and gifts. It’s also open daily.

Sunny’s Pizzeria is coming to the former Aerial Horizons office at 26th and Walts across from the University of Sioux Falls. Owner Jon Oppold plans to serve a variety of toppings on a thin crust, along with local craft beers. He hopes to open in November.

Silverstar Car Wash’s sixth location in Sioux Falls has opened. The site is on 85th Street, west of Minnesota Avenue. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Top Fitness has leased 4,500 square feet in a retail center being built in the Three Fountains development at 85th and Western. The new business is owned by Amanda Carlson and trainers Travis Hackett and Jesse Frost, who will focus on total body fitness, with a mix of weight-based and cardio workouts. The plan is to open early next year.

Game Chest is moving from the Jones421 Building to 409 S. Second Ave. Owners Amanda and Ben Wermers plan to expand their offerings and inventory in the larger space. Game Chest will close Friday to be at the SiouxperCon convention and then open in the new space Oct. 5.

Wilson’s Leather is closing its store at The Empire Mall. Today is the final day.

New businesses and other changes are coming to the 518 Marketplace in Harrisburg. A bakery that started in Pipestone, Minn., is taking over the coffee shop space, and a boutique featuring styles for “women who are a little older” is opening. Sassy Cakes & Coffee and Something for Me are joining the also-new BluMoon Designs, the expanded White Barn Charm and the original business that started it all, Emer-GenZ Eats & Treats. Shanon Abrahamson, owner of Gravel Road Blend, is working on a transition plan and hopes to focus on making her keto-friendly to-go meals, which turned into a popular product. She envisions continuing to sell them out of the marketplace. Sassy Cakes owner Ashly Nordmeyer expects to be open by Nov. 1. Something for Me owner  Lisa Coit will have a grand opening Oct. 3-5.

Tate Griebel has started Falls Fresh Microfarm. He sells his microgreens to local restaurants.

Look’s Market will close its store at 69th and Western on Saturday ahead of opening its new marketplace. The owners are transforming the 17,000-square-foot former Callaway’s along Prairie Green Golf Course into Look’s Marketplace, which will include the Look’s retail store and meat counter but add a brewery, sit-down dining, bakery and other features.

Handy Man Home Remodeling Center has temporarily relocated to 1101 S. Cliff Ave., the former site of Inspirations Jewelry, Art & More. LifeScape recently closed the store that sold items made by its clients. Handy Man’s store at 910 E. 10th St. was damaged in a storm Sept. 10. The hope is to move back into the store before the end of the year. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Minnesota-based Dakota Supply Group, or DSG, is expanding its presence in Sioux Falls. Its main electrical, HVAC and plumbing branch will move into a new building at 800 E. 60th St. N. early next year. The current office is at 3610 N. St. Paul Ave.

James “Jimmy” Madsen and J.J. Otruba bought the Beresford-based The Bus Stop Grill food truck, renamed it Uncle JJ’s and Papa Jimmy’s Neighborhood Grill and started booking events in July. Their signature item is a Philly cheesesteak, but they also customize menus for catered events.

The Bonus Round Bar has opened at 127 W. 10th St. It’s the second location for the business, which features arcade games, pinball machines, craft beer and pizza. It’s open daily.

Debi Fujan has started Estate Sales by Debi LLC. Fujan owned a similar business in Omaha for eight years before selling it and moving to Sioux Falls in 2018. She specializes in helping sell antiques, collectibles and high-end furniture. She can be reached at 605-610-7119.
