Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

A new spot for juices, smoothies and acai bowls has arrived on the east side. Nekter Juice Bar’s first Sioux Falls location is at Dawley Farm Village. The locally owned franchise near Jersey Mike’s Subs is open daily.

A new business offering suite-style salons in southeast Sioux Falls is almost full. Elite Suites at 5211 S. Sycamore Ave. features health and beauty services, owner Elizabeth Campbell said. The building has space for 15 suites, and almost all are occupied.

Two liquidation stores have changed their names and business models. Crate is now HomeLife. Instead of putting overstock and return merchandise in bins and discounting prices daily until restocking, HomeLife at 2707 S. Carolyn Ave. sells discounted merchandise in a more traditional retail format. In Brandon, Bargain Bins 605 is now Boutique & Bid 605, selling most of its goods through an online auction model while offering space to individual vendors who sell their own crafts. A third bin store, Daa Bin, has been “temporarily closed” since August.

A Latino nightclub and sports bar has taken over the former Boss’ Pizzeria & Sports Bar in Tea. El Effecto Latino Nightclub hosts dances every Saturday night, and the sports bar and video lottery casino is open Wednesday through Sunday. The event hall that houses the nightclub also can be rented for wedding receptions and other gatherings. Owners Vania Lopez and Angel Mendez eventually want to open a Latino restaurant and market in the dining room space.

Uncle Doug’s Liquor has opened at 5406 W. University Trail in northwest Sioux Falls. It’s the second liquor store for Dave Birger, who also owns Fogies Liquor Gallery. Features include a walk-in beer cooler, cigars and Credo’s Pub take-and-bake pizzas.

Creative Surfaces has a new owner. Jud Pins sold the business his parents started in 1988 to Toronto-based Lynx Equity Capital, which also has a U.S. division. Pins continues to run the company that makes, distributes and installs commercial casework, countertops and signage.

An employee at Fit My Feet is now the owner of the shoe store’s six locations in three states and Runner’s Block. Owen Perry acquired the businesses from founder Nick Kolterman. Runner’s Block recently moved out of The Empire Mall to 2700 W. 41st St.

The owner of Posh Boutique is closing the storefront at The Bridges at 57th at the end of January to focus on The Posh Cowgirl, a mobile Western-themed women’s boutique that she started in the summer. Alyssa Nix will base operations out of a new warehouse space in Tea. In the winter, the location can be used for shopping by appointment or for events and private parties like bridal showers and bachelorette parties. In other seasons, the trailer will be found at rodeos, horse shows, breweries, wineries and events.

The city’s first pickleball pub is open. Remedy Pickleball Pub is in a converted warehouse next to Remedy Brewing Co.’s back patio at the 8th & Railroad Center. It features three regulation-size courts on a professional surface. Players can reserve court times by the hour. It’s open the same hours as the taproom: noon to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to midnight Friday and Saturday. For now, players have to order beer and food in the taproom and take it over to the courts.

South Dakota Aerial & Arts has added bungee fitness. Each participant wears a harness connected to a bungee and performs jumping moves from the ground to music. A standard class is 45 minutes, and small private group classes are available.

Sport Clips is bringing a third location to Sioux Falls. The franchised salon is owned by Chelsea and Isaac Schreurs and will open at the end of the month at 8006 W. 41st St.

A locally owned dollar store has closed. Chani Liben opened Dollar $ Store 10th Street in 2020 at 1503 E. 10th St. Liben also leased space in the building for Multicultural Barber Shop, which he started in 2012. That business has moved to 2300 E. 10th St.

Allure Health at 7000 S. Lyncrest Place has started Allure Infusion. The clinic offers IV hydration drips, wellness shots, Semaglutide treatments, and Botox and dermal filler options. It’s open daily for appointments.

Layered Elements Boutique has closed its storefront and switched to online-only sales of women’s merchandise. Taryn Raabe founded the store in 2020 in downtown Sioux Falls with her mother, Heather Herlyn, originally focusing on furniture and home decor and later adding clothing. In 2022, the boutique switched to clothing only and moved into a smaller space at 317 S. Phillips Ave. Raabe shared on social media that the new chapter in her life includes being a mom and returning to school. The website is layeredelements.com.

Sioux Falls-based Aanenson Media, doing business as A&B Business Solutions, has acquired Robert Sharp and Associates, a full-service marketing firm in Rapid City. “RSA is unique for building relationships with many people within the marketing sector. This strategic acquisition aligns seamlessly with our commitment to delivering top-notch marketing and office solutions to our customers,” said Dennis Aanenson, owner of A&B Business and RSA. “The collaborations between our companies will enhance our ability to provide comprehensive services, and we look forward to leveraging our expanded portfolio to benefit both existing and new customers.”
