Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.
Fair Market has brought its reduced-price grocery model to the west side of Sioux Falls. The new neighborhood satellite location is at 523 N. Kiwanis Ave. It carries staples such as hamburger, milk, rice and beans along with some salvage items. It’s open Monday through Saturday.
The owner of Kabab King has sold his restaurant and plans to return to operating a food truck. The restaurant closed just before Christmas, and the new owner could not be reached to talk about plans for reopening.
Casey’s General Stores is planning two new locations in Sioux Falls. It’s expected to break ground this year on a site at Benson Road and Louise Avenue in the northwest part of the city. It recently purchased land in southeast Sioux Falls along 69th Street east of Cliff Avenue in the Stadium Crossing development.
A longtime cake decorator is opening her first bakery in Harrisburg. Emily Studemann has started Sugar Palace by Emily and will open in the former Subway space at 220 S. Cliff Ave. In addition to cakes, Studemann will sell cupcakes, cookies and brownies. She hopes to open by the end of the month or early February. The bakery will be open Monday through Saturday.
The newest venue from the owners of event space Convolo is open and taking bookings for events. Casetta is at 201 W. 37th St., west of Phillips Avenue. The venue is designed to host small-scale social and corporate events.
Sioux Falls-based Boss’ Pizza & Chicken has expanded to another city in South Dakota. The newest franchise location is in the Best Western Kelly Inn in Yankton and is called Boss’ Pizza & Chicken Sports Bar. It replaces Minervas, which was operated by Sioux Falls-based WR Hospitality and did not renew its lease after 20 years in the space.
Harrisburgers in Harrisburg closed Dec. 30 but is being sold to the owner of The Big Orange Truck. Dean Marshall said he hopes to reopen by March 1. He hasn’t settled on a name, but the menu will continue to feature burgers and ice cream.
