Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Yellow Corp., once known as YRC Freight, has filed for bankruptcy and is liquidating the nearly century-old trucking company. It has shut down sites across the country, including its Sioux Falls operation that employed about 150 workers.

Pizza Ranch on East 10th Street has opened its expanded FunZone arcade. It’s about double the size of the previous one. A new party room will open once furniture arrives.

The Smoked Culture BBQ & Brews has opened at 3400 W. 49th St. It started as a food truck last year featuring smoked meat sandwiches.

Brooke Fitts, who most recently was chief marketing officer at Profile by Sanford, has launched Jodder, a service that provides localized social media content and management services to small businesses and franchises.

A new venue in Dell Rapids has opened, offering meeting and event space plus a menu of tea-based beverages. The Meeting Nook is at 412 E. Fourth St. and is owned by Desiree and Paul Osborne. Their other business, Tea Soulution, also is incorporated here with a menu that includes bubble teas and tea flights.

Tip Top Tux at 2425 S. Shirley Ave. closed abruptly earlier this month along other formalwear stores across 12 states owned by Atlanta-based Dapper & Dashing. According to news reports in other states, employees were notified by email that the stores were closing permanently.

Auntie J’s American Soul Food in Lennox has added a food truck. Founder Joni Williamson and partner April Woody are keeping the focus on soul food but can adapt their menu as needed depending on the event. It’s available for public and private events throughout the area.

A new boutique specializing in luxury body piercing and jewelry has opened in south Sioux Falls. Brothers Lance and Brandon Dunlap have opened Kind Find Jewelry & Piercing in a retail center at 3032 W. 57th St. The jewelry is made on-site from precious metals and gems. The studio also offers jewelry repairs and sells merchandise online.

Dollar Tree is building a stand-alone store in the new Harvest Creek development at 57th Street and Veterans Parkway. It’s expected to open in early 2024.

The Delbridge Museum of Natural History at the Great Plains Zoo has closed. The collection includes 170 taxidermy mounts that originally were harvested by West Sioux Hardware owner Henry Brockhouse in the mid-1900s across six continents. As part of the zoo’s master planning process, it discovered levels of chemicals that were used decades ago in the preservation process posed a threat. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, which has a repository for permitted specimens, will assist in managing the future of the collection.

A food truck owner is taking over the kitchen of a west-central Sioux Falls bar. Ken Leonard of Tacos de Gringo is starting Kenards Grille in The Gaslight Lounge, 2206 W. 12th St. Burgers, chicken, gourmet hot dogs and sandwiches will be offered, along with appetizers and desserts. Leonard is planning a soft opening for Sept. 1 and will continue to operate the food truck.

Farmhouse Market has opened at 121 S. Franklin Ave. It’s a second location for owners Kristy and Phil Vander Ziel, who also have a store in Edgerton, Minnesota, and have sold their merchandise at I-29 Antiques and Stacey’s Vintage-Art-Boutique near Tea. Within the space, shoppers will find a mix of home decor, furniture, vintage pieces, jewelry, bath and body products, accessories and other gift items – some of which are from other makers. It’s open Wednesday through Sunday.

Lucero and Eduardo Rodea, owners of the Original Corn Pie, have added another business. Infinite Cleaning offers residential and commercial cleaning services. To learn more, click here.
