Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Rack City Billiards has opened at 309 S. Bahnson Ave. It features nearly 20 pool tables and offers league and open play. Rack City also plans to host tournaments. The locally owned pool hall has a full liquor license and plans to add a small food menu. Hours are 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

Sanford Health and Fairview Health Services have extended the target closing date for their merger beyond May 31. In a statement, the two health systems said the extension was “in the interest of ongoing cooperation with the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General” and that they would give the state office 90 days’ notice before closing at a future date.

A private golf club is being planned just northeast of Sioux Falls. Mapleton Golf Club would encompass 210 acres northeast of interstates 229 and 90, across from the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery and along Slip Up Creek. It’s being developed by Landscapes Unlimited, whose projects include Sutton Bay in central South Dakota. The concept calls for an 18-hole championship course, a driving range and practice facilities, and a clubhouse with amenities such as a fine dining restaurant, bar/lounge, patio and private meeting space. There’s also a plan to include lodging accommodations for up to 24 members and their guests. The plan is to open the club for play sometime in the 2025 season.

Prairie Towers is coming to a site along 85th Street east of Minnesota Avenue. The Cresten Capital Holdings project will feature 102 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments split between two three-story buildings. The first units are expected to be ready by this fall. One building will have 5,000 square feet of retail space.

Houndstooth House has purchased a larger building for its design studio and home decor retail store. Denise Cotter and Michelle Marino, who founded the business in 2005, have moved it from 201 W. 37th St. to 101 W. 37th St. The new space has allowed Houndstooth House to expand its retail merchandise, including sofas, bedroom sets and dining furniture. The retail store is open Monday through Saturday.

The state of South Dakota plans to consolidate offices for 12 agencies throughout Sioux Falls into a new building at the east-side Dawley Farm Village. Sioux Falls One Stop will be along Highline Avenue, near the new Avera McKennan facility. Construction is expected to begin this fall.

Business Resource Network has changed its name to Employment Disability Resources to better reflect its mission. The nonprofit organization provides education, awareness and resources to promote the successful employment of people with disabilities.

Sub Zero Desserts has changed its name to Polar Bites after receiving a cease-and-desist letter from Sub Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream, which has 30 locations across the country. Polar Bites, which Jessica and Matthew Rooney started in 2019, has a seasonal stand on 41st Street and just opened a year-round shop at 401 E. Eighth St.

Holly Anderson Hintz is moving her home-based sewing business that specializes in soft “minky” blankets to a retail space. Shake Rattle Sew will be at 2228 W. Fifth St. and expects to open sometime in May. That’s the former location of her husband’s business, Pinnacle Productions, which moved to Tea. Hintz also sells custom gift baskets and plans to add blanket-making parties

The Butcher Shop, which Wholestone Farms opened late last year in northeast Sioux Falls on a site for a future full-scale hog processing facility, is “closed until further notice,” according to the company. The Butcher Shop offered custom processing for hogs and sold Wholestone retail products.
