Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

JJ’s Axes & Ales has started construction on an expansion that will include more activities and meeting space. The business at 3000 W. 57th St. is expanding into a neighboring space, adding 1,700 square feet, so it now will total 4,800 square feet. The addition will include pool tables, video lottery machines, an office and a conference room that will be available for small group meetings and events. The expanded area should be ready in mid-January.

Starbucks plans to open another location in Sioux Falls in the spring. The newest coffee shop will be at 505 W. 85th St. and will have seating along with a drive-thru.

CorTrust Bank is building a branch at 7135 S. Santa Rosa Court, which is along Cliff Avenue south of 69th Street. It will replace a branch in a retail center at 57th Street and Cliff that the bank has operated for about 15 years. The full-service branch is expected to open in early July.

The new owners of the historic Rose Stone Inn in Dell Rapids have started a renovation project that could take up to two years. When completed, the former bed-and-breakfast is expected to have a restaurant on the first floor, co-working spaces and conference rooms on the second floor and two apartments on the lower level.

Meta Financial Group and MetaBank will be getting new names after the parent company of Facebook, now known as Meta Platforms, paid the Sioux Falls-based publicly traded company $60 million for its trademark assets. The agreement allows a year for phasing out the Meta name.

Pizza Hut is returning to West 12th Street, but this time with a delivery and carryout location. The chain closed its dine-in restaurant just over one year ago. The new site will be at 2207 W. 12th St., next to Scooter’s Coffee.

The former Pizza Hut building at 2501 W. 12th St. will be the site of a new Caribou Coffee. It will offer seating and a drive-thru. It’s expected to open in early summer.

Bill Hinks, who has owned the Western Mall for 25 years, has sold the 30-acre development at 41st and Western to Sioux Falls-based Elgethun Capital Management. When it opened in 1968, the Western Mall was the first enclosed regional shopping mall in the state. Several additions later, it now holds 50 businesses, including many professional services.

Vision Care Associates is moving its downtown office from Main Avenue to 331 S. Phillips Ave. in the space that most recently was Luca’s Boutique. For now, Dr. Jarrell Freitag is working out of Vision Care’s other Sioux Falls location at 200 W. 37th St. The Phillips Avenue office is expected to open early next year.

Little Caesars is adding its first new Sioux Falls store in years. The pizza chain has leased space in the Liberty Square retail center, west of Minnesota Avenue on 85th Street in front of Walmart. The fourth Sioux Falls location will be in an end-cap space next to Orangetheory Fitness. It’s expected to open in midyear.
