Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Allegiant Air is adding two more nonstop destinations from the Sioux Falls Regional Airport. This winter, travelers will gain access to Anaheim, California, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Allegiant announced in late June that it was adding service to Austin, Texas.

The Western Mall is expanding to accommodate the growth of tenant 605 Ninja. The 8,000-square-foot addition will be on the west side of the obstacle training center. The business will add a second gym. This fall, it’s also adding space for its aerial fitness program.

Sneaker Flavorz, a new business specializing in high-end shoe brands that customers can buy, sell, trade or consign, has opened at The Empire Mall. It’s located next to Build-A-Bear Workshop and Bohme.

Fair Market has opened at 2512 S. Carolyn Ave. The reduced-price grocery store sells a variety of products that owner Kristin Johnson buys from warehouses. Merchandise includes shelf-stable foods that have exceeded the “best by date,” overstocked items and goods with damaged packaging. Fair Market’s hours are 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

Glacial Lakes Distillery of Watertown has opened its taproom in downtown Sioux Falls. It’s at 200 S. Main Ave. and serves cocktails made with the distillery’s vodka, white rum, dark rum, gin, brandy and bourbon. There’s also patio seating.

National women’s clothing retailer Windsor is coming to The Empire Mall. It’s known for its selection of moderately priced formal dresses. Windsor will be located next to Tilly’s and American Eagle Outfitters, across from Dry Goods. The plan is to open before Thanksgiving.

One of the newest food trucks in Sioux Falls specializes in handcrafted burgers and fries, and features bacon jam as its “golden goose bestseller.” Murphy Lundie returned to South Dakota to start Murph’s after spending several years managing a food truck in Portland, Ore. The Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef offers a simple menu, but his burgers are filled with flavor, highlighted by his secret house sauce and signature bacon jam.

Artistry Dance Studio will begin offering classes in September. Owner Kristie Moore has owned other dance studios in South Dakota but had been teaching at other studios since moving to Sioux Falls. Artistry, 2912 E. Jackson St., will offer classical ballet, tap dance, modern dance, lyrical, contemporary and Irish dance classes for students of all ages and skill levels.

National retailer Pet Supplies Plus has opened its first Sioux Falls location. The store is at 1740 S. St. Michaels Circle and includes grooming and self-pet wash stations. It also sells small animals such as hamsters and guinea pigs along with reptiles and fish. The local franchise owners are Matt and Shana Nelson. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The owners of Fat Kid Filly’s are opening a bar and grill in Salem. Cody Sauers and his wife, Amber, bought The Brewery, which closed Aug. 21. They’re renaming it FatKid Saloon and hope to reopen in mid- to late September. Much of The Brewery’s menu will remain, including pizzas, and it will expand to include the signature “Filly” sandwiches that Sauers introduced to the Sioux Falls area last year when the food truck opened. They’ll continue to use the food truck for events and operate concessions stands at area venues.

Jacky’s Restaurant is expanding with a location in the food court at The Empire Mall. The Guatemalan-style restaurant will be next to Cinnabon and Charley’s Philly Steaks. The plan is to open later this fall.

The owners of the food truck Redders are moving to north-central South Dakota and have sold the trailer to a buyer in Wagner. The last public event was Saturday.

Watecha Bowl has sold its food truck and trailer to out-of-state buyers to focus on the restaurant and other brick-and-mortar expansion.

After more than 80 years in business, the Sioux Falls Shopping News is publishing its last issue this week. The business began downsizing last year when president and publisher K.A. Lesnar sold the weekly publication’s former location at 4005 S. Western Ave., which included Western Commercial Printing, to Cimarron Label. The Shopping News and its remaining 17 staff members moved across the street to an office at 3936 S. Western Ave.

A new food truck features barbecue recipes crafted over the years in competition and workshops. Zach Bauer, the younger half of the father-son duo of Holy Smokes Barbeque, has started 605 Barbecue Co. with a couple of business partners. While a majority of the business likely will be catering private gatherings, 605 Barbecue will take bookings for public events and will do a few pop-up appearances, Bauer said.
