Oct. 31, 2023

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Briana Kacmarynski, business development specialist at Schemmer.

Name: Briana Kacmarynski

Age: 27

Hometown: Brandon

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

I really like the convenience of living in Sioux Falls. My husband, Riley, is from Tea, South Dakota, and I am from Brandon, so Sioux Falls is a happy medium!

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

My husband and I are close with both of our families, and we really enjoy spending time with them! I am also a member of the South Dakota Air National Guard, and I have really gotten close with a lot of the people that I have served with for the past 10 years; I couldn’t imagine leaving my unit or family.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

Schemmer is a full-design engineering and architectural firm here in Sioux Falls, so I am very fortunate in my position that I meet with a variety of people. I get the opportunity to learn more about who they are, what they are passionate about and what they do at their company. It is always fun to meet new people and learn their personal story.

How did you get connected to your industry?

I got connected to my industry through LinkedIn actually! I interviewed with Schemmer a few rounds and learned about how great of a company they are, and it really stuck out to me of how great they take care of their employees.

Describe your workplace in three words.

Collaborative, experts and innovative.

What is something someone might be surprised to learn about you?

I am an ammunition specialist part time for the South Dakota Air National Guard — I build bombs.

What’s your favorite way to give back to your community?

I really enjoy coaching high school volleyball. I am a volunteer volleyball coach for Brandon Valley, where my mom is the head coach.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

I would love to see a Trader Joe’s or an Abercrombie & Fitch!

If you had $1 million to start a business, what kind of business would it be?

If I had $1 million, I would open up a social coffee and cocktail lounge in town with healthy, shareable options to encourage collaboration/networking opportunities.
