Build-a-blanket events kick off opening for handmade business

May 19, 2023

A business specializing in blankets has opened in its first storefront.

Shake Rattle Sew is owned by Holly Anderson Hintz and located at 2228 W. Fifth St.

After testing out some build-a-blanket events, she has started scheduling sessions with customers. They’re offered at 5 or 7 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and at 10 a.m. and 2, 5 and 7 p.m. Saturdays.

“And Sunday through Wednesday, we will host any events by appointment,” Hintz said.

“We have a four-person limit to host a class, and we will be adding more classes to the lineup like quillows, weighted blankets, pillowcases and more. We hope to host birthday parties, showers, bachelor/bachelorette parties, team building, date night and more.”

The business also is planning to pursue a beer and wine license.

All blankets are made on-site, and there are blankets to buy that aren’t custom-made. Product lines also will expand to include personalization and pet blankets. The storefront includes room for Hintz’s custom basket business, which offers gifts for holidays and other occasions. Regular retail hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, 2 to 7 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays as well as by appointment.
