A long-time indoor archery range and pro shop has entered a new era in a new building under new ownership.

“It’s a huge adventure,” said Justin Hackett, the new co-owner of Archer’s Addiction.

Hackett and his business partners, Mike Boer and Tim Skyberg, purchased Archer’s Addiction from founder Mark Berndt earlier this year.

“It has always been a dream of mine to own an archery shop and work with people,” Hackett said.

He has been active in the sport since he was 10 and has known Berndt for nearly two decades.

“It’s neat to see the transition,” said Berndt, who has been in the archery business since the 1990s.

“I’m glad I could sell this to someone like Hackett and keep the love for archery going for the local bow hunter or casual archer.”

Archer’s Addiction now sits just south of the Renner Corner along Highway 115 and is open to archery enthusiasts of all ages and anyone interested in learning the sport.

Hackett said this new state-of-the-art building offers more lighting, indoor capacity, elevated shooting, 3D targets and training courses than the previous building that sat east of the Renner/Crooks exit for Interstate 29.

The facility includes a full-service pro shop, two 20-yard target ranges and a 50-yard 3D target range with a full-length loft to simulate the height of a tree stand.

These days, Hackett said he really enjoys watching young people find a new interest in archery and grow in the sport. He sees kids start as early as 4 years old.

“Getting kids off of video games, smartphones and getting them in here to learn what archery is about and passing along those skills to keep people growing in archery, that’s what we’re here for,” Hackett said.

“Anybody can do it, and we have the right people to show you how to do it,” he said.

And they admit, it is truly an addiction.

“I’ve seen kids hit that first target and continue to grow,” he said. “That’s the best feeling in the world, to give back to the community this way.”
