Biotech’s “new tech frontier” will be the theme of the upcoming South Dakota Biotech Summit & Annual Meeting.

“A convergence of technology, science, data and innovation defines the direction of biotech in South Dakota today, and key industry players are taking notice,” said Joni Ekstrum, executive director of South Dakota Biotech.

“This is a day to hear from those leading biotech forward, whether it’s in health care, agriculture, energy or academic research.”

The annual event will be from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Minnehaha Country Club.

Constance Walker, communications director at the Sanford Underground Research Facility, along with research scientist Markus Horn, will deliver a morning keynote that will set the stage for how the biotech industry is thinking more broadly about its diverse reach in South Dakota.

Panelists from leading organizations across the region also will address the impact of technology in agriculture and health care.

A lunch program will announce the winners of South Dakota Biotech’s annual awards, including its LIVE award honoring someone who has made exceptional contributions to the biotech industry. Dakota State University President Dr. José-Marie Griffiths also will share insights on emerging opportunities for the biotech industry.

Other panel discussions will explore the trials and tribulations experienced by biotech entrepreneurs and how universities are preparing the workforce of the future.

“We consistently hear from attendees how they come away from the annual summit with a comprehensive understanding of our industry that helps them identify opportunities for the year ahead,” Ekstrum said.
