Sioux Falls rises to third in national economic strength rankings
Aug. 30, 2023
Sioux Falls is edged out by only two other metropolitan areas when it comes to economic strength, according to an annual analysis by Policom Corp.
Each year, Policom ranks the nation’s 384 metropolitan and 543 micropolitan areas for economic strength, which is “the long-term tendency for an area to consistently grow in both size and quality.”
This is the highest Sioux Falls has ranked in recent years after coming in eighth in 2022, 10th in 2021 and ninth in 2020.
The Sioux Falls metro came in behind Nashville, Tennessee, and Austin, Texas.
“The economic strength rankings are created so Policom can study the characteristics of strong and weak economies,” the organization said in its report. “The highest ranked areas have had rapid, consistent growth in both size and quality for an extended period. The lowest ranked areas have been in decline for an extended period.”
