Africa-inspired fashion brand to sell at 605 Made Holiday Market

Dec. 1, 2021

For Nadia Muando-Jacomet, finding fashion that spoke to her proved to be difficult in her native Mozambique. So, she took matters into her own hands and started to make her own clothes.

The result: InsideOut Moz  — a contemporary fashion brand that creates items for men, women and gender-neutral individuals.

Initially, Muando-Jacomet reached out to a seamstress hoping that someone could help her create the ideas that came to her, she said.

“Whether it was from my lack of communication or their inability (to bring my ideas to life), I decided that I needed to learn how to make my own clothes,” Muando-Jacomet said. “I started (creating) clothes that I would wear to the office at the insurance company I worked for. Soon, however, I started getting more and more compliments.”

The feedback that she received from others pushed her to start a clothing line for friends and family.

Her process starts with inspiration that is cultivated while thrifting and traveling but also what follows current fashion trends. She also tries to incorporate her culture into her designs, she said.

“When I say ‘culture,’ for example, (I am referencing my use of) a fabric called capulana, which is an African fabric from Mozambique.”

She ships her products nationwide and envisions an eventual storefront in Sioux Falls. She also sells at occasional pop-up shops, including one this weekend.

InsideOut Moz items, such as sweaters, bucket hats, mini and traditional fanny packs, tote bags and shoulder bags, will be available for purchase at the 605 Made Holiday Market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the underground parking garage of Cherapa Place.
