Hy-Vee to close Kiwanis store

Dec. 1, 2021

Hy-Vee is closing its grocery store at 10th and Kiwanis and turning it into a nonretail site.

The store will close at 6 p.m. Jan. 1, the Iowa-based grocery store chain announced in a news release. Hy-Vee Aisles Online pickup services at that store will end next week on Monday.

“The proposed plan is to have that location assist with preparing some of our bakery items and another section of that location assisting with pharmacy fulfillment,” spokeswoman Tina Potthoff said.

The 132 employees at the grocery store — 37 full-timers and 95 part-timers — will be able to transfer to comparable positions at Hy-Vee locations in the area, the company said. There are six other stores in Sioux Falls.

Pharmacy customers will receive a letter informing them that their prescriptions will be transferred to a nearby Hy-Vee pharmacy or a pharmacy of their choosing.

It’s also closing stores in Kansas City, Missouri; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Moline, Illinois. The Kansas City site will become a Hy-Vee liquor store.
