Black Watch to bring watch shop, speakeasy-style bar downtown

June 15, 2026

Don’t judge the newest addition to Phillips Avenue by what you see when you walk in the door.

That’s the whole idea behind Black Watch, a concept from downtown business owners who also own Crawford’s Bar & Grill and Shenanigans Sports Bar & Grill.

It’s located in buildings owned by OdeCo at 202 and 204 S. Phillips Ave.

Walk into the northernmost space and you’ll find a small bar with some seating that this week will be filled with the business’ first collection of luxury watches.

“You’d be surprised — with the luxury Rolex, it’s tough to find a local spot to purchase,” said Paul Ode, who co-owns the business with three of his brothers and his friend Martin Gullickson.

“I think it will be a well-connected, cool spot for a specific group of individuals.”

There will be a curated inventory of new and vintage pieces, including those some will wear every day and others that are more collectible, he said. The business also will connect customers for watch servicing.

Beyond the front of the building, though, is a speakeasy-inspired bar and dining room with a mezzanine that likely will become the main draw.

“It took us awhile,” Ode said. “But I think when you have the space and with where we are at and the right location, we had to do it right, and that took time.”

The building has been completely transformed from when it was Vishnu Bunny Tattoo & Piercing. There are distinct seating areas throughout the speakeasy, in addition to a new kitchen in the back.

The menu includes sharable appetizers such as oysters, mussel toast and fried chicken with a polenta cake and premium caviar.

A handful of entrees will allow for a full meal, including Rohan duck, lamb ravioli and steamed halibut.

Opening day is set for Thursday, and Black Watch will be entirely public to start — but with a membership option coming.

“To create what we have — the whole idea — to curate a flow and create a membership, there are a lot of moving pieces we’re trying to create in a space that’s 2,700 square feet and very small,” Ode said.

Because of that, he plans to expand to the south into the former Primp boutique space to offer additional kitchen space and three distinct seating area.

A space near the front will seat 90 and include a bar, while back areas will accommodate groups of up to 25 and 35.

The owners see demand for those kinds of events at Crawford’s regularly, Ode said.

“We will release memberships in a week or two, and the idea is a social club but downtown,” he added. “We’re considering this a preview.”

Members would have access to advance registrations, concierge-style menus designed for their group and other benefits, he said.

The plan is to open Black Watch at 4 p.m. daily. For information on memberships, email info@blackwatchsf.com.
