Like many home renovations, this early 2000s Sioux Falls townhome started out as a small project — and grew.

“We were going to do a small sunroom remodel, and it turned into the whole main floor,” said Ryan Brouwer, owner of Choice Builders. “They really wanted to update everything, and it turned out quite well.”

The homeowners ended up replacing doors, millwork and flooring, removing a wall, redoing the kitchen and enlarging the sunroom.

The washer and dryer were moved into the master bath for greater functionality.

And a formal dining room and breakfast area were reconfigured to create a larger island and flow to the sunroom.

The outdoor space got a big upgrade, too, going from a fairly basic patio to an outdoor entertaining area with a kitchen and multiple seating areas.

“And they really love entertaining, so this was the perfect upgrade for them,” Brouwer said.

The home in south-central Sioux Falls represents two of the 11 projects on this weekend’s Showcase of Remodeled Homes from the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire, which runs from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Visitors can tour, talk with builders and get ideas for their own renovation projects.
