1 Million Cups will move to larger venue

The entrepreneurial speaker series 1 Million Cups is moving to the Orpheum Theater.

It began four years ago and is held each Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Prairie Berry East Bank.

The Wednesday event features a weekly speaker who typically is a small-business owner and offers a chance for others in the entrepreneurial community to network and share information.

“We’ve kind of outgrown our space,” said John Meyer, who helped start 1 Million Cups in Sioux Falls, which regularly attracts 60 to 100 people.

By bringing the event to the Orpheum, “it’s a very different experience, which is what we’re going for. Speakers could be up on stage. It could in theory seat 600.”

It will start Feb. 7, 2018.

The last Wednesday of each month will become a startup coffee event at the Zeal Center for Entrepreneurship.

After discussing what entrepreneurs need in addition to a platform to talk about their businesses, the organizers determined “more time to talk, to collide, to network,” was necessary, Meyer said.

1 Million Cups presentations also are shown live on Facebook through Zeal’s page.

Sponsors for 2018 are The First National Bank in Sioux Falls, Lemonly, MarketBeat and Zeal.
