Jan. 7, 2025

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Lane Reecy, an ag banker at The First National Bank in Sioux Falls.

Name: Lane Reecy

Age: 26

Hometown: Dell Rapids

What brought you to the Sioux Falls area?

I grew up in Dell Rapids, and I have always loved this area of the state. As well as working in Sioux Falls, I also am a part of my family’s farming operation, which is just north of Sioux Falls.

What keeps you in the Sioux Falls area?

One of the obvious things that keeps me in the area is working for a great company that really cares about its people. Also, I am from the area, and many of my friends and family are here. But what I really love is the people that I get to work with!

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

My favorite thing about my job is working with farmers and ranchers. I’ve grown up in the agricultural community, and it is very fulfilling to be able to serve as a strong partner to many different operations and to watch them grow.

How did you get connected to your industry?

As I mentioned earlier, I have always had a strong connection to ag, and I knew that I wanted to do something where I was able to work with producers. As time went on, I realized that ag banking would be a good fit for me. I reached out to the team here at FNB, and the rest is history.

Describe your workplace in three words.

Supportive, caring, intelligent.

What is something someone might be surprised to learn about you?

I learned how to drive a pickup at 4 years old so I could help my dad on our farm when I was growing up, even though I couldn’t see over the dash.

What’s your favorite way to give back to your community?

My favorite way to give back is through community events. One of my favorite events to help at is the Ag Appreciation Luncheon at the fair, where we can see a lot of different customers and other people in our industry and thank them for all they do to put food on our tables.

What’s one business you’d like to see in the Sioux Falls area that isn’t here now?

One business that I would love to see in Sioux Falls is another good steakhouse; you can never have too many of those.

If you had $1 million to start a business, what kind of business would it be?

Well if I had a million dollars, I wouldn’t necessarily start a new business. I would probably use it to grow my family’s farm operation by buying land or building another barn to feed cattle in. Ag is my passion, so that is where I would probably go with that money.
