Second location for Indian restaurant features expanded menu
Dec. 20, 2024
The owners of an Indian restaurant in Sioux Falls have opened a second location.

Indian Oven at 431 W. 85th St. is the newest offering from the business partners behind Everest Indian Cuisine at 41st Street and Western Avenue.

“It’s a prime location because the city is expanding on this side,” said Jitendra Poudel, who owns the businesses with Dhiren Magar and Tek Magar.

The restaurant, which also serves Nepalese cuisine, is in a retail center in front of Wal-Mart, in a space previously occupied by Urban Chislic, which closed at the end of August.

While Poudel describes Everest’s menu as “the basics,” Indian Oven’s is more expansive. New chicken dishes are curry; muglai, which is in onion-based brown gravy; and Chicken 65, a spicy deep-fried dish.

Other new offerings are deep-fried chicken wings with a spicy or sweet sauce. In addition to vegetable momo, which are Nepalese dumplings, Indian Oven has a version with chicken.

While Everest offers chicken chili, there are more options at Indian Oven like mushroom, shrimp, baby corn, okra and paneer, which are cottage cheese cubes. A new pasta tikka masala comes with chicken or shrimp.

Some of the most popular dishes are butter chicken, lamb curry and the chicken or lamb tikka masalas, Poudel said. Another favorite is saag paneer, the cottage cheese cubes and spinach cooked in a creamy sauce with spices. Indian cuisine also features many vegetarian and vegan dishes like that.

The restaurants also serve entrees with alligator and goat meat.
Through Dec. 24, the restaurant is offering a tasting menu with a 15 percent discount. The full menu is available too. Customers can see all the options at indianovensiouxfalls.com.

Indian Oven has opened with limited beer offerings, but those will expand, along with the addition of wine in the new year, Poudel said.

To start, hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
