Restaurant Roundup: New ice cream flavors, summer fare, food truck news

June 1, 2023

Parlour Ice Cream House kicks off Flavor Fridays this week, introducing two new flavors in the ice cream case every week. This summer, customers will find at least 12 choices every day – four more than last year. Some of the new flavors this season are raspberry cheesecake, blueberry pie, mocha almond crunch, coconut rose and passion fruit. Also new are coffee floats featuring cold brew and ice cream. Sandwiches, but not soup, are still being served for lunch. Choose from turkey and Havarti, ham and Swiss or roast beef and cheddar – all on white or wheat Breadsmith bread. Summer hours also have gone into effect: 5 to 9 p.m. Monday; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday; and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

M.B. Haskett has introduced its evening menu for summer. It features strawberry and spinach salad, Korean-style pork spare ribs, ahi tuna spring roll, pesto linguini, tofu pad Thai, duck arepa, seafood green curry and a chimichurri filet. Dinner is served Thursday through Saturday.

Food Truck Fridays are back at First Bank & Trust at Dawley Farm Village, starting this week. Find a different food truck every week from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Here’s the schedule.

Find one of three food trucks – Breaking Burrito, Hunny & Bunny and Windy City Bites –– every Tuesday at the AMPT concert series at the Cherapa Amphitheater along the east bank of the Big Sioux River between Sixth and Eighth streets. The food trucks will be across the pedestrian bridge in the Raven Industries parking lot. Live music and food will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Editor’s note: This item was corrected to reflect that the food trucks will rotate.

Because of a death in the family, The Midway Cafe didn’t open in Hartford this spring for its kickoff before heading out on the carnival circuit. Owner Rose Zeig said she missed serving the community but couldn’t take on the extra work. This month, there are two opportunities nearby to catch the carnival treats she offers. The Midway Cafe will be at a carnival this weekend in Worthington, Minnesota, and June 16-17 at Czech Days in Tabor.

The Pizza Ranch on 41st Street is hosting a fundraiser Monday to help a free grief counseling and support program for children and the adults who care for them. Ten percent of all sales from 4:30 to 8 p.m. will benefit Sad Isn’t Bad.

The Brat Stand at Hudson Meats & Sausage has reopened for the season. It’s open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Lincoln County town. In addition to brats, the stand serves sandwiches.
