Restaurant Roundup: Food court spot closes, Indian taco takeover, Chef O’s shrimp boils

Thyme Cafe has closed its location in the food court at The Empire Mall after three months. Owner Taylor Massey continues to operate her first location, Thyme Cafe & Catering, which is at Signature Flight Support at Joe Foss Field. She serves breakfast and lunch there from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays and provides catering services. The mall location featured build-your-own pastas and grab-and-go flatbreads.

Indian taco alert: Miranda Koltze is taking over her husband’s food truck, Chizlickers, on Saturday morning at the Falls Park Farmers Market. She and her sister will be making their specialty: Indian tacos. They’ll also serve cinnamon sugar fry bread and Alex Koltze’s signature beef chislic. The farmers market on the north end of the park is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

If you’ve been missing Chef Omar Thornton’s cooking, you’ll like this news. Glacial Lakes Distillery & Brewhouse is hosting the Chef O’s Shrimp Boil on Aug. 26 and Sept. 2. Serving will start at 4:30 p.m. both days. Pre-sales will begin this weekend with a link under the tasting room’s events page on Facebook.

Spread the word: Pizza Inn’s former employees are having a reunion at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at BB’s Bar & Grill and hoping to spread the word to gather as many people as possible. The original location on East 10th Street had a nearly 50-year run, closing in 2015. The West 41st Street location operated for over 30 years.

Severance Brewing Co. is celebrating its third birthday Saturday with the tapping of five beers, two of which are new: STS Hot Mess Expresso and Color Me Curious. There also will be live music and food trucks throughout the day. Kota Cafe will serve from noon to 3 p.m., Cheezy Noodlez Gourmet Mac & Cheese will be there from 4 to 8 p.m., and Donut Envy will serve mini-doughnuts from noon to 7 p.m. The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co. made the special blend of coffee used in STS, and bags of those beans will be for sale in the taproom. A Homestead Brew is kicking off its five-year anniversary party at 2 p.m. Saturday. Check out the new event room at the farmhouse brewery east of Sioux Falls, and enjoy live music from Jay Tripp on the piano and food from Salas Salsas. New releases include a peach and apricot barrel-aged sour with the farm’s Centennial hops and South Dakota honey and a local cherry barrel-aged sour. Find the details here.

The crew at Prairie Berry Winery has crafted jars of raspberry rhubarb jalapeno jam. Find them for a limited time at the Miner Brewing Co. & Prairie Berry Winery Taproom or order them online.

The traveling food truck On the Hook Fish & Chips will be in Sioux Falls. Find it from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in the usual spot at Tractor Supply Co. on North Cliff Avenue.

Life just got a little easier in the ordering line at Subway. The chain has introduced the Subway Series menu with a dozen signature options. All you need to decide is which number and whether you want a foot-long or 6-inch sandwich. Customize it if you like.
