Giving Back for November
Nov. 29, 2024
Giving Back recognizes businesses and organizations that are helping our communities. Here’s a look at who gave back for November.
The First National Bank in Sioux Falls
Teammates and retirees of The First National Bank in Sioux Falls donated $150,354 to the annual Sioux Empire United Way campaign this fall. With the bank’s dollar-for-dollar match, a total of $300,708 was raised. More than half of First National Bank’s teammates achieved Rising Heart or Heart Club status for their level of giving.

Black Hills Federal Credit Union
Black Hills Federal Credit Union staff members raised more than $12,100 and volunteered 87 hours for charitable organizations in the third quarter through its Community Action Team program. The support stretched across the credit union’s footprint and included organizations in Sioux Falls such as the Alzheimer’s Association South Dakota Chapter, Americans for Suicide Prevention and South Dakota Salutes. Team members in Sioux Falls also participated in an Adopt-A-Mile cleanup, and funds raised for the BHFCU School Support Drive supported The Banquet’s Project SOS, Terry Redlin Elementary School Lunch Program and Sioux Falls Out-of-School Time Care.

Hy-Vee
Hy-Vee has donated more than $340,000 to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts from hurricanes. The donation included a $100,000 corporate match to the more than $241,000 raised from customers at checkouts during a two-week register roundup campaign in October. In addition to monetary donations, Hy-Vee deployed its disaster relief fleet after Hurricane Helene to impacted areas. A large flatbed generator and trailers filled with supplies and bottled water were sent to support partners handling relief operations. Several Hy-Vee trailers still remain in disaster-impacted areas to support Operation BBQ Relief as the organization continues to serve meals to those handling response efforts.

Sioux Falls Marathon
The 2024 Sioux Falls Marathon raised a record-breaking $27,250 for Sanford Children’s Miracle Network, according to the Sioux Falls Sports Authority and Sanford Health Foundation. Runners from across the U.S. participated in the event Aug. 25, which featured a half-marathon and the Miracle 5K. The Sioux Falls Marathon will return in the fall of 2025 with a full marathon, half-marathon and the Miracle 5K.
