A local baby spa offering float tubs and infant massage is closing just shy of two years serving local families.

Your Nurtured Baby, which is located in a retail center near 85th and Western Avenue, was the first of its kind in the Sioux Falls area.

In an email to their clients mid-May, owners Laura Hanson and her eldest daughter Liz announced the closure citing other similar business concepts are closing or struggling in cities like Houston, Indianapolis and Chicago.

“We’re sad to see most of the baby spas in the United States close,” Hanson told SiouxFalls.Business. “We know how beneficial these services are to families, but we understand that they take the back burner to other needs in this economy.”

The concept of infant wellness spas has been growing in popularity in other countries all over the world, they said.

“I don’t know if the United States is quite ready yet for baby spas,” Hanson wrote in the email.

She said she looks forward to exploring ways to continue infant massage and parent education, which was something she enjoyed before opening a brick-and-mortar location.

One thing that will also stick around is Baby Day, an expo the Hansons started at Your Nurtured Baby in the spring of 2023 for new or expecting parents.

This year’s event was held inside the Icon Event Hall.

“The expo is growing!” Hanson said. “We’ve just retained a much larger space for the spring of 2025.”

A closing sale has started in the store and online for boutique items. The last day to enjoy float or massage services at Your Nurtured Baby is June 29. Extra appointment times have been added to the schedule to allow customers to utilize gift certificates or remaining package credits.

The space will be open to sell furniture and other items from July 10 through July 20.

“The families we met and the friendships we made because of the baby spa has made this experience so worth it!” Hanson said. “Sioux Falls has some amazing resources for families and we are proud to be a small part of that.”

They plan to announce what’s next for the existing Your Nurtured Baby space in the coming weeks.
