Yoga business owners combine to form Frontier Wellness, become partners in Frontier Climbing

July 2, 2021

Some well-known names in the local yoga world are coming together, getting into the climbing business and preparing for a big expansion.

Kendra Brouwer, founder of Kosha Yoga School, and Dakotah Jordan, founder of Dakotah Yoga, are partnering to form Frontier Wellness – a move that also involves a partnership with Frontier Climbing and Fitness.

Brouwer and Jordan will become part owners in the east-side climbing business in addition to combining to form the wellness business.

Jordan will serve as general manager of Frontier Wellness and Frontier Climbing and Fitness, while Brouwer will serve as studio manager, overseeing the yoga school and managing their future studio. Kosha Yoga School will be the education and training arm of Frontier Wellness.

“The coolest thing about this partnership is that I really wasn’t looking,” Brouwer said. “I’ve been climbing at Frontier since it opened and was ready to teach some public classes again, but this is more than I could have imagined, in the best way.”

They plan to build a 7,000-square-foot building on the east-side campus, which will include a heated yoga studio, a nonheated yoga studio, multipurpose space and four wellness offices. It would be just north of Frontier and share a parking lot.

“We are really excited to create a space for yoga, wellness services and other movements inside our new facility but are even more excited that this space will not exist on an island,” Brouwer said.

“We both love everything that Frontier has to offer with the fitness center, climbing gym and CrossFit offerings and are excited for our future members to be able to access all of those amenities.”

Each had thought about working with Frontier to build a studio, “but the thought of going it alone didn’t really entice either of us,” Jordan said.

“But when the idea was thrown out that we should join forces together, that’s when the wheels started turning. We were both perfectly happy doing our own thing in each of our separate businesses, but as we spent countless hours on the phone talking through what we could potentially build together, it became very clear that both of our hearts were longing to make a bigger impact in the yoga/wellness arena and we wanted to take on the challenge.”

The hope is to grow the pool of people who participate in yoga, Brouwer said.

“We also have strong values of accessibility and inclusiveness in this space and really hope to bring yoga and wellness to a wider scope of clients than has been served before,” she said.

“I have been teaching yoga for almost 14 years, and I’ve watched the audience grow and mature in that time. We are so ready for a place like this. Frontier Wellness is going to be amazing, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

Members can access a fitness facility, climbing gym and performance center with group fitness classes in different tiers of membership.

The plan is to open the new building early next year.

Until then, Brouwer and Jordan will offer their services under the Frontier Wellness brand at 3701 W. 49th St., including massage, reiki and private individual yoga sessions. They will offer weekly yoga classes at Frontier Climbing and Fitness and at pop-up locations.

“We want people to know that we will have a brick-and-mortar space; however, our services extend beyond the walls of whatever space we occupy,” Jordan said. “Even when we have the studio space, we plan on still extending our services outside of our space to serve a larger group than what will be served in the studio alone.”

The two combined as Frontier Wellness on June 1.
