TEDxSiouxFalls opens applications for next event

Dec. 30, 2021

Have a message to share with Sioux Falls and beyond? Applications are open for the next TEDxSiouxFalls event.

The date is being finalized but likely will be in April or May.

Applications are open until Jan. 31.

The live audience event with professional filming/recording will take place at the Washington Pavilion’s Sommervold Hall. Within one to two months, the talk videos will be delivered to the broader TED organization for uploading at its discretion.

Speeches are three to 16 minutes long, and the idea is “to reveal an amazing perspective, finding, concept or realization that falls within being TED worthy and an ‘idea worth spreading'” said Thad Giedd, who organizes the event locally.

Ten speakers will be selected, and more than 100 are expected to apply, he said.

Here’s some guidance from Giedd for those considering applying:

  • Make sure your idea or message is already vastly developed. Be prepared to give a rough version of the speech by the application deadline.
  • You should have personal involvement in the topic — participating, proximity, as in you live it or work within the space. So don’t speculate about a topic or speak on something you’re not involved in or that’s not backed by research or doesn’t include a personal story.
  • You must be “very passionate” about the topic.
  • Your talk should be about information-sharing and not self-promotion.

A committee will select the 10 talks to be delivered. Full parameters and details are available at TEDxSiouxFalls.com.

Tickets will go on sale sometime in January or February.
