Subway closes longtime site, will relocate

Oct. 30, 2023

A Subway franchisee has closed a longtime Sioux Falls location — the second Subway site that opened in South Dakota — but plans to relocate it.

The restaurant at 3500 S. Minnesota Ave. closed earlier this month, said Matt Puls, whose family is the franchisee for six locations in Sioux Falls.

The family plans to relocate the restaurant that was in a retail center at Minnesota and 43rd Street soon but isn’t able to say where that will be quite yet, Puls said.

“We have a better opportunity elsewhere to better suit out customers,” he said. The new location will have a drive-thru.

“The Minnesota Avenue traffic is just unbelievable as this town has grown,” Puls said. “It’s a dead area with the traffic at 5 o’clock and even noon. No one wants (to try) to come in.”

Subway had been in the retail center since 1990.

The location is between two others on Minnesota, one south of 14th Street and the other north of 69th Street.
