State’s largest ‘geek convention’ starts today
From staff reports
An event that bills itself as South Dakota’s largest geek convention is this weekend in Sioux Falls.
SiouxperCon drew 1,500 visitors to its first convention last year. This year, the group is expecting 2,500 people to attend the three-day event that starts today.
The vision is “to engage individuals, cultivating their interest of comics and various popular art forms through workshops, panels, seminars, exhibitions and hosting conventions,” vice chairman Shane Gerlach said.
The event will be at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel and includes a video game tournament, panel discussions, vendor booths and an artist alley.
SiouxperCon celebrates several mediums from comic books to cosplay, anime, board games, video games, science fiction and fantasy. It also benefits Reach Literacy and the JY6 Foundation.
