South Dakota to lose 4 Family Dollar stores

April 2, 2024

Family Dollar in Beresford is closing later this month – one of 600 stores its parent company plans to close in the coming weeks.

The final day for the store, which also carries Dollar Tree merchandise, is April 20, and items are 75 percent off, an employee said.

At least three other Family Dollar stores in the state are closing.

Workers in Reliance and Lemmon said the final day is April 13. The Family Dollar is Spearfish also is closing, but the store could not be reached to find out when.

When Dollar Tree Inc. released its first quarter earnings in early March, it announced that it would close approximately 600 Family Dollar stores in the first half of its fiscal year. In addition, it’s planning to close 370 Family Dollar and 30 Dollar Tree stores in the next several years as those store leases expire.

Editor’s note: This story has been updated with additional closings.
