South Dakota Chamber of Commerce & Industry to host 2024 Economic Outlook

Join the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce & Industry for its annual Economic Outlook on Oct. 1.

The event will be from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.

The Economic Outlook has become a cornerstone event for business leaders the first Tuesday of October, providing invaluable insights into the strengths and challenges of our regional economy and comparing regional to national trends.

This year, in addition to the economic conversation, the South Dakota Chamber is featuring a focused discussion on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and the evolving landscape of economic innovation. Audience engagement is a priority for both sessions.

“Our commitment to fostering an engaging and interactive environment remains steadfast,” said Pam Bonrud, chair of the Outlook planning committee.

“We believe in the power of dynamic dialogue to deepen understanding and spark new ideas. Participants are encouraged to actively engage with our esteemed speakers, ensuring a collaborative and enlightening experience for all.”

The interactive economic discussion will be moderated by Tony Nour, senior vice president relationship banking, PREMIER Bankcard and feature:

  • Joe Santos, director and professor of economics, SDSU Ness School of Management, where he oversees the Dykhouse Program.
  • Jared McEntaffer, CEO, chief economist, Dakota Institute for Business and Economic Analysis.

These renowned economic experts look forward to an interactive discussion with audience members.

A discussion about cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and an update on Dakota State University’s Dakota Applied Research Corp. facility will be moderated by Jodi Schwan, SiouxFalls.Business founder, and will feature:

  • Andrea Thompson, CEO of DARC, addressing cybersecurity and the economic impact of the facility.
  • David De Jong, Dakota State University dean of the College of Education & Human Performance, discussing the transformative potential of artificial intelligence.
  • Kimberly Hogstad, vice president – information security officer with Sanford Health, providing perspectives on private sector cybersecurity challenges.
