Lincoln County Commissioner and community volunteer Jim Schmidt has been named the Sales & Marketing Executive of the Year from Sales & Marketing Executives of Sioux Falls.

“On behalf of SME members, our organization is honored to present this prestigious award every year to uplift and spotlight those who have dedicated their career to elevating the sales and marketing industry and our community,” said Sheila Hoff, SME president.

“Jim has given so much of his time to enhance the organizations in Sioux Falls, and we are thrilled to recognize his talent and service. Congratulations to Mr. Schmidt on this well-deserved achievement.”

Since 1987, SME has presented the Executive of the Year award annually to an individual in the South Dakota business community who has contributed extensively, demonstrated leadership legacy and is looked up to in the community.

The award will be presented at the Sioux Falls Leadership Summit on Sept. 19 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. The event is open to the public and tickets can be purchased at www.SMESiouxFalls.org.

Schmidt began his career as a high school teacher and counselor, impacting the lives of students in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. He returned to South Dakota and took on the role of president of Killian Community College in Sioux Falls. He later became the executive vice president for the American Cancer Society of the Dakotas and then CEO of the Sioux Empire Housing Partnership.

Schmidt has always maintained his family farm near Lennox, reflecting his deep roots in the community. In 2000, he was elected to the Lincoln County Commission, where he continues to serve as commissioner.
