Slim Chickens arrives on the east side this week.

The fast-casual restaurant specializes in fried chicken sandwiches and tenders and will open Thursday at 2301 E. 10th St.

“We’ve gotten many requests throughout the last few years to build on the east side,” franchisee Todd Porter said. “And there’s not a lot of great locations left in town, and the prices have gone up significantly, so I was really lucky to get this one for what I felt was a very fair price. It’s not the biggest location there is for a Slims, but it’s adequate for a third store, and we’ll continue to look for a location for a fourth.”

The Slims menu is limited by design, but newer items include dry rub wings and hand-spun milkshakes.

“And we have an array of awesome chicken sandwiches,” Porter added.

The other Sioux Falls locations are on Minnesota and Louise avenues.

Hiring on the east side is ongoing, Porter said.

“We’ve got trainers here from different parts of the country,” he said. “We’ll continue to hire, and we’ll have someone on premise, one of the managers that will be doing literally nothing but walk-in interviews and lining up interviews, and we’ll continue to hire from now until forever.”

Slim Chickens opened in Arkansas in 2003 and has more than 170 locations in 26 states.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
