Sioux Falls School District superintendent announces resignation
Oct. 25, 2024
The superintendent of the Sioux Falls School District is resigning at the end of this school year.
Jane Stavem said in a message to the community that she has decided to step down as superintendent in June 2025 after five years in the role.
“After 36 years in education, including 15 as a superintendent, I feel it’s time to begin a new chapter in my professional life,” she said.
“This decision was not made lightly, as my years here have been among the most rewarding of my career.”
Stavem added that she is “deeply grateful for this community’s ongoing support and partnership. Together with our amazing staff and Board of Education, we have navigated some of the most significant challenges in education and celebrated remarkable successes. Through it all, our students and families have remained at the heart of every decision, and it has been a privilege to serve alongside such talented educators and a generous, caring community.”
The remainder of her message read:
“Leaving this incredible district is not easy, and the hardest part of this transition is stepping away from the wonderful people who make this community so special. I look forward to finishing the school year strong and I am fully committed to our shared goals and the continued growth and success of our students and schools.
“Thank you for the trust and partnership you have extended to me over the years. I am excited to see the district continue to thrive well into the future. By offering my resignation now, I am providing our dedicated School Board with the time needed to thoughtfully begin the process of selecting the next leader for the Sioux Falls School District.”
The Sioux Falls School District will initiate the search for Stavem’s successor in the coming months, the district said in a statement.
