Shop selling rare plants sets opening date downtown

June 22, 2021

The Deku Tree officially has grown from a garage-turned-greenhouse in Humboldt to a plant shop in downtown Sioux Falls.

The store, which sells hard-to-find succulents and cacti, will host a grand opening event July 3 and 4 in its new location in the Jones421 Building.

Owner Joshua Cooper sources his plants from the southwest part of the country, and on several occasions he has taken trips with his trusty 22-foot bus named Mongo Bongo. By the end of those trips, the bus is full.

The Deku Tree

The Deku Tree opened in early 2020 and has since gained a loyal following on social media, with some customers refreshing the page to find the latest plants posted for sale.

Cooper has said he also hopes to offer classes in his new space in the former Boki Gelato.

The Deku Tree will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 3 and 4.

Seeing green: He took a 22-foot bus to the Southwest, filled it with plants, and his business blew up
