SDN dedicates Mark Shlanta Technology Park

Sept. 9, 2022

It’s official: Mark Shlanta Technology Park has been dedicated in honor of the longtime CEO of SDN Communications.

Shlanta died in February at age 57 after resigning at the end of 2021 to manage his cancer diagnosis.

Under his leadership, SDN grew into a far-reaching business-to-business broadband service provider owned by 17 independent broadband companies and serving 80 percent of South Dakota’s geography.

In addition to his business leadership, Shlanta led many community volunteer boards including Forward Sioux Falls, the Sioux Falls Development Foundation, Avera Health, Bishop O’Gorman Catholic School Board, and Boy Scouts of America.

Shlanta’s wife, Peggy, and their four sons attended Thursday’s ceremony at the data center northwest of Sioux Falls.

In one of Shlanta’s last actions with the SDN board, he persuaded members to double the size of the existing data center because the first 10,000 square feet of raised data floor space was filled and he believed there was a need for more hardened data center space in the market.

Construction on the project is wrapping up and it’s nearly ready for build-to-suit clients.
