Scooter’s Coffee is planning a new location at the Sanford Sports Complex.

The drive-thru kiosk will be along Benson Road, directly in front of Fleet Farm. This will be the 10th Scooter’s Coffee location in Sioux Falls.

“We are thrilled to finally bring a coffee drive-thru to the Sanford Sports Complex. As a local Sioux Falls parent myself, I’ve experienced first-hand the desire to have coffee nearby the area,” Travis Rhoades, franchise owner of Scooter’s Coffee, said in a statement.

“In addition to the Sports Complex, the exciting growth of additional business and residential in the area will be something to look forward to.”

The new addition brings needed food and beverage options to the area, said Steve Young, president of Sanford Sports.

“Bringing a Scooter’s Coffee to our campus is always something we have wanted to deliver for our visitors, and we’d like to thank Travis and his team for helping make that happen,” Young said. “Our sports programming begins early here, and having a place to get a quick, high-quality breakfast and coffee to jump-start your day is the perfect addition.”

Scooter’s Coffee was attracted to the location by the traffic in the area, said Ryan Tysdal of Van Buskirk Cos., who represents Scooter’s Coffee.

The Sanford Sports Complex has approximately 2.4 million visitors per year. In addition, Interstate 29 has more than 55,000 vehicles per day.

“We’ve been eyeing locations for Scooter’s in the northwest part of the city for over five years,” Tysdal said. “This finally felt like the right spot at the right time.”

Scooter’s opened a coffee drive-thru in northwest Sioux Falls on Marion Road in 2022, across the street from Jefferson High School.

“Just having one location in this quadrant of the city isn’t sufficient,” Tysdal said. “Tenants like Scooter’s need to follow the traffic patterns, which means multiple locations.”

Scooter’s will start construction this spring and expects to open this fall.

The announcement joins other projects in progress at the Sanford Sports Complex, including Comfort Inn & Suites, which is expected to open this spring, and the Sanford Virtual Care Center, expected in 2024.

There is 1.15 acre parcel for sale adjacent to Scooter’s.

“To make the land deal work, Scooter’s actually had to acquire some extra land, which we have available,” said Tysdal, who has the land listed for sale. “This is a great opportunity for a small strip mall or free-standing fast-food user to be right next to Scooter’s at the main entrance to Fleet Farm.”
