Rock & Roll into fall with Spooncat! tonight

End your week with a parking lot party tonight featuring local favorite Spooncat! at JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars.

“Spooncat! is being inducted into the South Dakota Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday, so to celebrate, we are throwing a party,” JJ’s owner Tom Slattery said.

What to know

Gates open at 5 tonight to the north parking lot at JJ’s, 3000 W. 57th St.

Live music kicks off at 6 p.m. with Dan Mahar, then Goodroad at 7 p.m., followed by Spooncat! at 9 p.m.

The concert is free to anyone 21 and older.

“We are sold out of reserved tables, so feel free to bring a chair and post up in our parking lot,” Slattery said.

Let JJ’s know on Facebook if you are “going,” and keep an eye on the event for additional information as it is released.

Parking strategies

Want to keep the parking situation simple? The best option is to use a ride-sharing service such as Uber or Lyft.

“We will have a designated drop-off and pickup area right next to the concert site in the north parking lot,” Slattery said.

Next best option: Bike! JJ’s is a quick jaunt off the city recreation trail, plus it’s going to be a beautiful night for a bike ride. You’ll find designated bike parking in front of JJ’s Axes & Ales.

Need another option? Park at Farm Field Park, also known as the Big Sioux River boat launch, on West 57th Street. From there, you can walk across the bridges via the recreation trail and into the JJ’s lot. It’s a half-mile walk on a beautiful night.

“Also on that side of the river is the First Bank & Trust parking lot. They have said that we can have people park there, but you still have to walk over on the bike trail — so no walking through the 57th Street tunnel,” Slattery said. “If you park there, you’re not allowed to leave your vehicle overnight.”

The actual JJ’s parking lot also is an option, though there will be designated spaces for VIP guests.

“It’s still a large lot, but please “be conscious of our neighboring businesses and try not to park in the spaces immediately in front of their businesses,” Slattery said. “Also please do not park in the spaces in front of JJ’s so we can keep those open for retail business.”

There is no parking on Cink Place — the street used to access JJ’s — because it’s a fire lane that can’t be blocked. There also is no parking in the new apartment complex to the east because that’s still an active construction site.

“The best solution is to rideshare or come early,” Slattery said. “Gates open at 5 p.m., and we’ll have our mobile bar set up outside similar to what we do for Levitt concerts and Augustana football.”

Valentino’s Pizza will be set up to offer food, and you can order food and drinks inside JJ’s Bar. There will be extra bathroom facilities on-site, and bathrooms will be available in JJ’s Bar and at JJ’s Axes & Ales.

“We’re excited for a great fall night of entertainment,” Slattery said. “We hope a lot of people come out and help us celebrate a local music legend.”
