A new indoor baseball and softball training facility in southern Sioux Falls promises an elevated experience for athletes.

Visual Swing Baseball & Softball Academy will have a grand opening Nov. 22 at 3901 W. 53rd St., in what had been the warehouse of the former Target Card Services building.

It offers the standard batting cages and tunnels, but it also has invested in high-end technology to help players improve every part of their game, said Raymond Williams, who owns Visual Swing with Matthew White and Trevor Hurley.

“We offer every piece of technology that the colleges and pros use,” said Williams, noting that includes Rapsodo, HitTrax and other items. “We want to give kids in Sioux Falls the same technology and advantage other places have. Maybe we can help kids get over the hump sometimes in their playing because they’ve had that technology.”

Williams said he hopes to offer it all at competitive prices.

He also hopes their location makes it a convenient facility for athletes.

“A lot of the places are on the outskirts of Sioux Falls, so accessibility can be an issue, especially if it’s snowing or the weather is bad,” Williams said, adding that he’s passionate about helping develop players.

“I’ve played baseball my whole life, and my partners have played as well,” Williams said. One partner is an assistant coach for O’Gorman High School and also coaches for the Sioux Empire Baseball Association and American Legion. The other played club baseball. “We’ve been in the baseball realm our entire lives. People know us, whether it was playing against each other in college or just growing up.”

He notes that training has changed over the years, but now every school has advanced technology. Introducing younger players to it can be an advantage. The technology includes everything from ball tracking and response time to flight monitors that connect mechanics with instant data for real-time understanding of progress.

“Now, when these kids get asked ‘what’s your attack angle’ or ‘approach angle,’ they won’t be confused,” Williams said.  “These kids won’t be behind the curve as a freshman. They’ll be ahead and be able to look at their analytics and get better.”

He emphasizes the facility is for all levels of players – and cages are available with and without the extra technology, which is geared toward softball and baseball players.

“If you want to do fielding, you can do fielding. You can hit, you can pitch, you can field. We are a true baseball and softball academy,” Williams said. “Sioux Falls is growing, and the interest in youth sports is growing. We’re at a good point right now.”

The facility is open to the general public, and Visual Swing will offer camps, clinics and training. “We’ll have instructors with some college and professional experience,” he said.

Williams said they truly want to help kids get better.

“We want to help kids understand that whatever you put work into, you’ll get something in return out of it, even after playing,” Williams said. “And helping kids understand, when they get to the games, adversity happens in sports or in life. And sports just help you learn how to deal with adversity.”
