Rezoning clears path for potential new food processor
March 5, 2025
The Sioux Falls Development Foundation has received City Council approval to rezone property in northeast Sioux Falls as it works with a food processor considering expanding to Sioux Falls.
The deal would encompass about 50 of the 110 remaining acres at the Development Foundation’s Park VIII, which is south of 60th Street North and east of Interstate 229.
The City Council approved rezoning the area from light industrial to heavy industrial at Tuesday’s meeting.
Because the deal with the food processor is ongoing, not many details can be released, but Development Foundation CEO Bob Mundt confirmed that the project would not involve meat processing.
The location is appropriate for a new facility because “it’s an industrial park, and we are an ag community,” he said. “We support our ag producers, and that’s what we’re trying to do with this.”
Over time, the Development Foundation has gotten solid interest from potential processors considering new plants, Mundt said.
“Because we’re in the ag belt, they all want to be close to a major population center.”
If the current deal comes together, it would employ up to 450 people and begin operations in 2027 at the earliest, he said.
