Restaurant Roundup: Zoup’s return, lunch specials, Halloween treats

Oct. 20, 2022

Zoup is starting a return to regular hours and service after being closed since late June for a “store refresh.” It was open for a few days last week with a BOGO soup special as it began training employees. The restaurant added sandwiches this week and has been open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. For next week, it’s teasing that something new is being added to the menu.

Daily lunch specials are back for fall and winter at Josiah’s Coffeehouse, Cafe & Bakery. Monday is a roast beef dinner, Tuesday is a turkey dinner, Wednesday is goulash, and Thursday is chicken pot pie.

Papa Woody’s Wood Fired Pizza has a new Tuesday lunch special. Buy the American Cheeseburger with fries for $13, and get one free. The offer is good from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on dine-in orders.

Here’s a “bloodthirsty” special for Halloween. JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars is selling Sangria Blood Bags, starting Friday. Last year, they sold out quickly, so the business ramped up production this year. Find them in the grab-and-go cooler.

WoodGrain Brewing Co. is having its annual beer and Halloween candy pairings next week. They’ll be available Monday and Tuesday, beginning when the taproom opens at 3 p.m. Pick your favorite pairing for a chance to win a crowler of your choice.

The Rush has an NFL food menu with special prices on several popular game day eats. The menu is available whenever NFL games are being played. Choose from seasoned beef tacos, your-choice-of-meat loaded nachos, St. Louis-style pork ribs, wings, hot dogs and brats, or get $1 off any pizza. There’s also a $20 deal on a bucket of beers and a small order of wings.

Boba Blenders have been added to the menu at Juice Stop. The locally owned smoothie and juice bar with five locations in the city responded to customer demand for the popular drinks. The blenders come in a variety of flavors, and there are two choices for the bursting boba: strawberry or mango. The shops plan to add a third “mystery” rotating flavor in a couple of months. Customers also can add boba to any smoothie.

Glacial Lakes Distillery & Brewhouse has several new drinks for fall. A fun addition is The Dance Mom, named after the moms who stop by for a drink while their kids are at dance lessons at the nearby studio. The sweet drink has caramel vodka and spiced rum shaken with apple cider and a butterscotch vanilla cream. Looking for a warm drink? Try Go Bananas with Whitecap Rum and toasted banana syrup. Other choices include a salted caramel apple mule, hot or cold spiced rum cider, pear vanilla gin fizz, espresso martini,  smoked maple brandy Old-Fashioned and Pumpkin Cheesecake, which is vanilla bean vodka shaken with a pumpkin cheesecake base.

In case you missed it, Nacho Fries returned to the menu at Taco Bell last week. This time, they’ll be there for “an extended period,” according to the restaurant chain. And while supplies last, customers can try Loaded Truff Nacho Fries. Truff’s Hotter Hot Sauce, available only at Taco Bell, features a blend of black truffles and red chile peppers. For $1, customers can add the sauce to any menu item when they’re ordering through the app.

Changes in hours, service

  • Chef Lance’s on Phillips is dropping lunch service and adding dinner on Sundays as of Nov. 1. New hours will be 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Special beer and wine dinners will be on Mondays. “The decision was made in the interest of trying to balance work and family life,” the restaurant said in a post on social media.
  • Sunday is the final day of the season for the B&G Milkyways on Sycamore Avenue and on 69th Street.
  • Taqueria Juanita’s last day for the season is Saturday. Until then, the food truck will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in its regular spot at 1715 W. 12th St.
  • Severance Brewing Co. is starting winter hours on Sunday. New taproom hours are 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, noon to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
