Roam Kitchen + Bar has new menu items, and it brought back some of customers’ favorites. New items include a brisket salad with cornbread croutons, shrimp ceviche with mango, a turkey ciabatta with applewood bacon and bread pudding with bourbon crème anglaise. Returning favorites: bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers, bone-in beef short rib with root vegetable puree, seafood gumbo with jasmine rice and top sirloin with horseradish smashed potatoes. The new NFL happy hour runs from 7 to 11 p.m. Monday and Thursday and all day Sunday. Get drinks starting as low as $3 and apps as low as $6 in the bar area.

Obscure Brewing Co. is celebrating Oktoberfest on Saturday with the tapping of its last keg of Oktoberfest Festbier. Special menu items, which are available all week, include jumbo pretzels with beer cheese and mustard, sauerkraut brats and a warm side of German potato salad. Two rounds of stein-holding competitions will begin at 5 and 8 p.m.

The Combine has set its opening date. The new Garretson sports bar will open at 4 p.m. Oct. 12. It’s filling the former ‘O’ So Good Restaurant space.

The Barrel House has been invited back up to the Twin Cities this weekend for the Justin Sutherland & Friends SmokeOut. The event features 16 chefs and their smokers at an outdoor fall festival with live music, spirits, local beer, smoked meats and a meat raffle. It runs from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Allianz Field in St. Paul. Barrel House chef Jesse Severson is making pork belly burnt ends with an Asian pickled slaw.

Sunny’s Pizzeria has picked a design for a mural it’s commissioning for the north wall of the pizza shop at 26th and Walts. Artist Wyatt Dickson will create “The Sioux Falls Wall of Notability.” Mr. Bendo, Captain 11, lawyer Scott Hoy and other notable figures in the story of Sioux Falls will be part of the work. Sunny’s plans to add an inductee or two each year to the 12-by-20-foot mural with a ceremony to honor those who are added.

Changes in service, hours

Eileen’s Colossal Cookies won’t be open on Mondays because of a staff shortage. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” it said in a post on social media. “We strive to offer the best service to our customers, and the lack of staff has made this very difficult. We will be happy to serve you Tuesday-Saturday.”

FatKid Saloon in Salem opened Friday but its plans to be open daily from breakfast to late night have been delayed because of hiring and training. Temporary hours are 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday with the kitchen closing at 11 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. “Thank you for all your patience as we get the ball rolling,” the owners said in a social media post. “We wanted to make sure to be open for all of you for homecoming per everyone’s request, and now we would like to make sure we have a strong foundation for continued business.”

TJz Bar & Restaurant in Colton also is affected by staff shortages and its shortening its hours. It is opening daily at 4 p.m. instead of 11 a.m. “We hope to be back on track with normal hours as soon as we possibly can. …  And a big thanks to our current staff that are hanging in there and working their buns off for our great customers,” owner Kathy Lamer wrote in a social media post.

Pizza di Paolo has extended its closure. Because of a “COVID exposure to one of our staff, we have decided to remain closed until further notice for the safety of the community. We thank you for your patience and understanding and we hope to see you soon!” It has been closed since Sept. 17 and planned to reopen earlier this week.
