Restaurant Roundup: Popeyes’ new sandwich arrives, new Topped Tots, new Saturday brunch buffet

Aug. 22, 2019

Popeyes’ new fried chicken sandwich, which has set off a Twitter war about which chain has the best one, arrives Friday in Sioux Falls. The Louise Avenue location will have it first, followed by the East 10th store, hopefully Saturday, an employee said.  The $3.99 sandwich features a buttermilk-battered fillet, barrel-cured pickles and regular or spicy mayo on a brioche bun.

OverTime Sports Grill at 26th and Sycamore has a new menu. Among the highlights are the Topped Tots, co-owner Jeff Dougherty said. The restaurant tested them on a recent featured menu, and they were a favorite, he said. The double-size serving of tater tots comes in six varieties: taco, parmesan garlic, cool ranch, Texas, loaded cheeseburger and buffalo style. OT listened to its customers and created the OT Sampler, which puts four of the favorite appetizers – OT Bites, nachos supreme, chicken quesadillas and onion rings — on one platter. OT is known for its wings, and the new Triple Threat gets a special treatment. The wings are par-baked, flash-fried, coated with sauce and then finished on a flat-top grill to caramelize them. Check out the full menu here.

Abelardo’s Mexican Fresh is under new management. Juan Escobedo (third from the left) and Martin Alvarez (not pictured) have worked for Abel Gonzalez, the founder of the Omaha-based regional restaurant chain for years. The restaurant at 1200 S. Minnesota Ave. is open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

Myers’ Deli & More has added a Saturday brunch buffet that’s served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Diners at the downtown restaurant in The Carpenter Building on Phillips will find a mix of breakfast and lunch items – last week’s included bananas foster French toast and blackened cilantro chicken.

Chef Lance’s Cafe & Catering has scaled back its prepared-meal delivery service to its original form. Lance White, who operates his business out of Signature Flight Support at Joe Foss Field, offers three menu items that will change weekly. Customers can order family or individual portions by 5 p.m. Sunday, with deliveries Monday afternoon. Weekly offerings are posted on Facebook on Wednesdays.
