Restaurant Roundup: Pizza Pursuit, no PizzaRev, new lunch pizza

July 14, 2022

You’ve likely heard of Taco Rides. Hop on a bicycle, and ride with a group to a destination to eat tacos. Now, there’s a Pizza Pursuit organized by Falls Area Bicyclists. It starts at 2 p.m. Saturday, and it’s free for members of the cycling organization or $20 for others. The group will start at 2 p.m. at Papa Woody’s Wood Fired Pizza at Second and Phillips. Stops for “pit stop-sized slices” on the 10-mile route include Pizza di Paolo, Sunny’s Pizzeria, Tomacelli’s Pizza and Papa Woody’s. A 20-mile route adds the new Charlie’s Pizza House near 69th and Western. Get registered by clicking here.

Daily Clean Food & Drink has started serving pizza at lunch in addition to dinner. It’s available Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, diners can get breakfast pizzas during brunch hours.

We’ve finally confirmed that PizzaRev isn’t coming back. Franchisee Todd Porter closed the quick-service restaurant on 49th Street west of Louise Avenue on Aug. 26, 2021, saying that it was a temporary measure related to staffing shortages. According to the PizzaRev website, only nine locations in California remain. In February 2020, the LA-based chain had 35 stores in eight states, according to PizzaMarketplace.com.

The Saucy Boyz in the kitchen at Remedy Brewing Co. have added a few new items to the menu and many are vegan-friendly. There are bacon and lobster jalapeno poppers and a vegan “lobster” salad sandwich with herbed mayo, heart of palm, celery, cabbage and tomato on toasted sourdough. The new queso flatbread features chicken and offers a vegan chorizo option. The new Pub Burger has a one-third pound locally source wagyu patty that can be swapped out for a black bean patty.

The new T-Juanita Street Food and Cheladas at 702 E. Eighth St. has added a daily happy hour. From 3 to 6 p.m., get $1 off featured drinks or beer buckets for $18. Five “munchie dishes” are $8. Chose from steak nachos, mini birria tacos, mini fish tacos, shrimp skewers or teriyaki wings.

Let It Fly’s new featured menu goes from simple flavors with the Cheesy Chicken Quesadilla and Eggstra Point egg salad sandwich to complex with Birria Tacos and the Cajun Chicken Alfredo Pizza.

If you have Minion fans in your household, they’ll get a kick out of the themed menu items at IHOP. The menu, which is expected to be available through summer, coincides with the release of “Minions: The Rise of Gru” in movie theaters. The dozen or so menu items include Ba-Ba-Banana Pudding Pancakes, Cinna-Minions and Gru’s Evil Steakburger with sauteed japaneos, serranos and onions; bacon; pepper jack cheese, sharp cheddar mac-and-cheese and mayo. And note: Kids eat free every day from 4 to 10 p.m. That’s one meal with each full-priced adult entree for dine-in only.

Obscure Brewing Co. is celebrating its third anniversary Sunday with free pancakes. Serving will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Also that day, Obscure is releasing its Orange Mimosa Beer, and it will have four other new beers on tap.

Tillford Rye Farm is having an open house Saturday. It’s in its sixth season of growing vegetables and fruits for restaurants and individuals. CSA shares are still available for this year. The farm is at 25530 481st Ave., between Brandon and Garretson. “Stop over to enjoy a day on the farm; hang out and have a relaxed look around,” owner Jeremy Nelson wrote in a post on social media. “Bring a book, or art project, or games. Hammocks welcomed! @salassalsas will be serving lunch from their new food truck! We will also be constructing a high tunnel that day, starting around 9 a.m. Join in the fun if you like group projects or building cool stuff! We will close out the day with a giant bonfire. Hope to see you there!”

Changes in hours, service

Starting this week, Kota Cafe in the City Center at 231 N. Dakota Ave. will be closed on Fridays. Owner Renee Standish said she’ll look at reopening that day by the end of August or early September. Hours are 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Exit 5 Bar & Grill at SpringBrooke has reopened after a remodeling project. The business in Beaver Creek, Minnesota, which is owned by Rick Gourley, is still working to get part of the golf course reopened this summer, but no timeline is available. Hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
