Restaurant Roundup: New Year’s Eve special menus, $5 dinners, happy hours

The new Tavern Grill is offering a reservations-only $90 dinner for two on New Year’s Eve. It’s with a four-course meal with a champagne or nonalcoholic-beverage toast. The meal starts with a choice of Super Salad. The second course is Shrimp de Jonghe, Spinach Artichoke Dip or Sesame Stix. Up next is Tuscan stuffed beef tenderloin, savory herb chicken with mushroom risotto, teriyaki salmon or chicken skewers. For dessert, choose a berry and sabayon praline or chocolate cake. Granite City Food & Brewery is offering its new year’s special meal for two from Friday through New Year’s Eve. For $69, get a four-course meal. Add a bottle of champagne or pitcher of beer for $12.

BibiSol is offering a Yucatec-inspired, five-course dinner on New Year’s Eve. Tickets for the limited-seating event are $120 per person, and a vegan option is available. Add a wine pairing for $45. The gathering time is 6:30 p.m., with dinner beginning at 7 p.m.

The new Dahlia Kitchen + Bar will have a DJ on New Year’s Eve from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. with late-night snacks and cocktails from the bar to ring in the new year. Reservations can be made at dahliakitchensf.com. On New Year’s Day, happy hour will be offered from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The menu includes a selection of tostadas for $5, queso fundido for $8, wings and fries or nachos for $10 and lobster crispy tacos for $20. Drink options include house wines and tap beers for $5 and a 16-ounce casa margarita for $8. Moving forward, happy hour will be available in the bar from 3 to 6 p.m. weekdays.

Every Wednesday, Sioux Falls Food Co+Op features a $5 dinner special. Next week for New Year’s Day, the special – a cheeseburger with tater tots – will be served all day, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. or as long as supplies last. A vegan option is available too. Here’s the menu for January.

Pinz in Dell Rapids has two specials for the holidays. The restaurant in the bowling alley is offering a breakfast buffet deal on Sunday, Dec. 29. Buy one and get the second one at half-price. The regular price is $14.50 for those 13 and older, and $9 for 4-12. The buffet is served from 9 a.m. to noon. Stick around after eating for open bowling from 1 to 3 p.m. The second special is kids eat free with each adult purchase from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Jan. 3.

The new Taco Vault in Worthing has added a happy hour special. Get a taco and a select beer for $5 or $1 off any beer from 2 to 5 p.m. weekdays.

The Barrel House is offering two new desserts. The Loaded Ice Cream Sundae features vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate sauce, caramel, cookie crumbles, banana chips, strawberries and cherries. It’s garnished with toasted pecans and whipped cream. Churro Cheesecake Egg Rolls are filled with dulce de leche cheesecake and dusted with cinnamon sugar. They’re served with a Mexican chocolate sauce.

The all-you-can-eat salad bar is back at Big J’s Roadhouse in Humboldt. It’s available from 4 to 9 p.m. Fridays and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The price is $14 or $6 with an entree. Sorry, Harrisburg — the restaurant there doesn’t have room to offer a salad bar.

Highball cocktail bar has introduced Whiskey Wednesday, with half-price whiskey pours. The cocktail bar on East Eighth Street also has featured drinks for winter: Highball Hot Toddy and Mulled Wine.

Changes in hours, service

  • Sanaa’s 8th Street Gourmet is closed for a holiday break and will reopen Jan. 2.
  • Conner McMahan and Cat Evans of North End Bakery & Deli got engaged just before Christmas, so they’re taking a two-week break “to rest, recover and enjoy our newly-engagedness.” The shop in the Jones421 Building will reopen Jan. 8.
  • Baking up a Storm is closed until Jan. 2
  • JJ’s Darts & Billiards has started opening later on Fridays –  the weekday regular time of 1 p.m. instead of 10 a.m. It still opens at 10 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
