Restaurant Roundup: New wings, sparkling wine-pizza flight, burger latte

Jan. 11, 2024

PAve has several new menu items, everything from finally adding onion rings and tacos to giving last year’s Pork Showdown entry – the Pig Roast sandwich — a spot on the menu. For appetizers, bone-in wings in six flavors join the boneless versions, along with jalapeno poppers. For soups, French onion and a soup of the day join chicken tortilla. There’s a new Southwest Chicken Salad. New wraps are chicken ranch and Caesar, and new sandwich choices are roast beef, barbecue pork and French dip. Patty melt fans can find one now, and there’s a Pit Viper burger with pepper jack cheese, onion rings, jalapeno poppers and habanero sauce. The sriracha bourbon burger also has returned. Three street tacos – pork, beef or chicken – come with chips and salsa. Sweet potato fries have been added as a side. The kitchen is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

The sparkling wine and pizza pairing for New Year’s Eve was so popular at Calico Skies Vineyard and Winery near Canton that it will continue for at least a couple more weekends. Couples can get two flights and three 8-inch pizzas for $42. The pizzas are salmon and cream cheese, margherita and lemon berry. Call 712-753-2110 to check availability.

The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co. is joining the Downtown Burger Battle fun with a featured drink for January. The Burger Battle Latte comes in hot and cold versions and comes with a veggie burger sidecar from Look’s Bakehouse. The coffee shop says that while there are no burgers in the drink, there are several types of condiments.

Since it’s in the Western Mall, TapHouse 41 is feeling left out of the Downtown Burger Battle, so the restaurant has created a featured burger for the month to display the kitchen crew’s talents. The Asian Persuasion Burger features a patty stacked on sesame peanut slaw and jalapenos, topped with orange teriyaki pork belly and fried rice noodles.

The Taste of New Orleans menu arrives Friday at 22Ten Kitchen Cocktails. Delivery delays pushed back the start.

The new January tasting menus for Harvester Kitchen by Bryan have a wood-fired theme for January. To see the chef’s and plant-based menus, visit harvesterkitchensf.com. The photo is the American Wagyu Striploin with cauliflower, mushroom, potato and fennel pollen.

Breadsmith is offering a special bread on Fridays this month that’s made with spent grain from Remedy Brewing Co.

Sonic Drive-In’s new double cheeseburger with peanut butter and bacon doesn’t sound too far out there – especially in Sioux Falls where the Downtown Burger Battle has introduced diners to all kinds of flavor combinations. The drive-in’s new Peanut Butter Bacon Shake might be another story. The milkshake mixes peanut butter and bacon with vanilla soft serve ice cream. Both items are on the menu until Feb. 4.

Panera Bread has two new sourdough melts: bacon avocado and Southwest chicken. They’re available as a half or whole sandwich or as part of a You Pick Two combo. It’s also celebrating National Soup Month with a special on the app: Get a cup of soup for $1 with the purchase of an entree.

With the frigid weather ahead, the hot cocktails at Glacial Lakes Distillery & Brewhouse might hit the spot. Try the Tangy Tea Toddy, with bourbon, blood orange, tea, honey and lemon juice. If you’re in the mood for something sweeter, the Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate has vodka, cocoa and salted caramel, topped with whipped cream and more caramel.

The newest featured flavor at Nothing Bundt Cakes is Reese’s Chocolate Peanut Butter. It’s available in all four sizes of bundt cakes through at least Feb. 18 and possibly into the week after that.

Celebrating the release of “Mean Girls,” Cinnabon is going pink. For an extra charge, treats will include a swirl of pink frosting on Wednesdays, starting next week.

Scooter’s Coffee has new breakfast burritos. The spicy sausage also has scrambled eggs, red peppers and white cheddar cheese. The bacon version has scrambled eggs, green chiles and white cheddar cheese.
