Restaurant Roundup: New Saturday brunch, long-running Valentine specials

Feb. 15, 2024

Looking for a new Saturday brunch spot? Falls Overlook Cafe has created Rise and Dine – DJ Beats and Brunch. The brunches will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through March and possibly longer. The menu includes churro French toast, berries and cream crepes, Belgian waffles, homemade caramel and cinnamon rolls, and classics like breakfast sandwiches, egg scramble and biscuits and gravy. Bottomless mimosas and a bloody mary bar also will be available. Make reservations by sending an email to [email protected].

Remedy Brewing Co. is hosting its fourth annual BrunchFest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Four unique beers will be available, along with an all-you-can eat buffet from The Saucy Boyz in the kitchen. Find typical fare like pancakes, bacon, sausage, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, and more. Remedy also has updated its hours, staying open an hour later on weeknights. Hours are 3 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to midnight Friday and Saturday, and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Crave American Kitchen & Sushi Bar has several features for February. Available for both lunch and dinner are Jalapeno Citrus Yellowtail, Icelandic Arctic Char and the Beet & Berry Starter Salad. For lunch only, there’s a steak sandwich, and for dinner only, there’s a hanger steak. The featured dessert is the Port Wine Poached Pear, and the special drinks are Death by Chocolate and Strawberry Disco.

The east-side Bagel Boy had fun with the Super Bowl, creating a signature bagel sandwich for each team last week. Now, customers can get a 10 percent discount from Friday through Sunday on the bagel that represents the winning team: KC Overtime Win. It features chicken, cheese and Kansas City barbecue sauce with your choice garnishes and bagel flavor. If you ask, you can still get the California Club for the 49ers. It’s turkey, bacon and cheese on a bagel of choice with avocado spread and your pick of garnishes.

Khorasan Kabob House took the advice of a customer and added chicken soup to the menu until mid-March. Owners Arian and Tamana Wisaal said in a Facebook post that they often keep a pot of it on the stove during the winter, and “recently we gave some to a customer who was under the weather, and they said we should offer it for sale. So we will. By the way, they’re feeling much better now. Enjoy it as a light meal or as a side to one of our entrees. We’re sure you’ll feel better too.”

BrrrrrVana, Monks Ale House’s annual winter celebration of craft beer, is Sunday. Tickets, which are $50, include a tasting glass and unlimited samples of 50 brews from 1 to 5 p.m. The event includes a DJ, and Salas Salsas will be there selling nachos, taquitos and rice bowls.

Falls Landing Bar & Grill had added several fish specials that will be available for lunch and dinner every day through Lent. There’s a shrimp po’ boy, battered haddock sandwich, battered fish basket and a battered shrimp basket.

Winter specials of hot turkey and hot beef sandwiches are back on the menu at TommyJacks Pub. Turkey is served on Wednesdays for $9.50 and roast beef on Thursdays for $10. Lunch hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. They’ll likely be around until mid-May.

Let It Fly has new $12 lunch specials that include a nonalcoholic beverage. The five options are served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

The burger of the month at Wileys is called The Aftermath – an appropriate name coming off of January’s Downtown Burger Battle. The burger includes two smash patties with caramelized onions, Cajun bacon, two slices of Gouda cheese and black garlic aioli on a toasted brioche bun. For each burger sold, Wileys is donating $1 to the Sioux Falls chapter of the NAACP. In addition, $1 from every fishbowl drink sold on Fishbowl Friday also will go to the organization.

Murph’s Burgers & Fries is donating $1 of every Murph Burger sold through Sunday to help pay off school lunch debts in the Sioux Falls School District.

The east-side Dunn Brothers Coffee is helping raise funds this month for the American Heart Association-South Dakota. Customers who make a $5 donation will get a free drink of their choice.

After dropping Wing Wednesday in 2022 when chicken prices skyrocketed, the dine-in-only special is back at Critters Bar in Crooks. The price is $1 a wing or $5 for a 9-ounce order of boneless wings. They come in 10 flavors.

And for fans of hot wings, the bar is hosting a Hot Ones Hot Wing Challenge at 5 p.m. Saturday. There are 15 spots available with a $25 entry fee, which includes two domestic beers. Those who successfully complete the challenge will be entered in a drawing for prizes. Stop by the bar or call 605-543-5425 to reserve a spot.

Waddy’s Bar & Grill in Hudson throwing a birthday party Saturday for “The Chief” behind its popular bloody mary mix, which is now bottled in Hudson and sold in stores throughout the area. Longtime customer Larry “The Chief” Plendl is turning 80. The party will be from 2 to 5 p.m. You can read about the creation story in this article we wrote two years ago.

For anyone who can’t get enough potatoes, KFC has launched the Smash’d Potato Bowl. KFC’s Secret Recipe Fries, which are regular fries seasoned with the chain’s signature combination of spices, are topped with mashed potatoes, bacon crumbles and cheese sauce. Pick the option with five chicken nuggets if you want more meat.

The featured dish for February at Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe is the tuna melt sandwich. A toasted ciabatta bun is topped with housemade apple walnut tuna salad, melted cheddar cheese, mayo, red onions, tomatoes and leaf lettuce. Buy a tuna melt sandwich and two drinks, and get a free entree until March 28. For online orders, use promo code TUNAMELT. The soup of the month is Baja Chicken Enchilada.
