Restaurant Roundup: New pizzas, sandwiches, specials, expanded hours

Feb. 17, 2022

New seasonal pizzas have arrived at Sunny’s Pizzeria. The Drop Dead Fred – remember the 1991 film with Phoebe Cates and Rik Mayall? – has alfredo sauce, garlic, mozzarella, macaroni, chicken, bacon and broccoli. Pickle Me Timbers goes this route: ranch, mozzarella, bacon, pickles, banana peppers, green peppers, tomatoes, bread crumbs and basil pesto drizzle. And the BLT OMG is, obviously, a nod to the sandwich.

The Rush Bar & Grill has several new menu items, including Boss Nachos with loaded veggies, queso and your choice of meat; a double smash patty melt; a Philly-style cheesesteak; the Vortex chicken sandwich; and The Kevin Bacon, a smoked turkey and ham sandwich on toasted white bread topped with bacon, provolone, mayo, lettuce and tomato. The Rush also has added four pizzas: BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, B.L.T., Pork Chop Express with pulled pork and The Drake Sabitch – think Gary Busey in the 1996 film “Black Sheep” — with spicy Italian sausage, pepperoni, Italian cheese blend, jalapeno, banana pepper and tomato sauce seasoned with the house smoky dry rub.

Jacky’s Restaurant in The Empire Mall has added a daily weekday special. Get discounts for Burrito Monday, Taco Tuesdays, Salad Wednesday, Torta Thursday and Fish Friday.

The meal is $11 for those 12 and younger.
