Restaurant roundup: New brunches, Oktoberfest arrives, kitchen closes

Sept. 16, 2021

Now that the NFL season has arrived, Let It Fly has added brunch from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays. The menu features six items: breakfast chimi, French toast, breakfast sandwich, breakfast pizza, the Let It Fly omelet and The American, which is two eggs, toast, bacon or sausage, and breakfast potatoes or fruit. Diners also can start ordering from the full menu at 11 a.m. Get $5 decanters of mimosas all day in orange, cranberry, pineapple or apple cider.

Glacial Lakes Distillery and Brewhouse has added Sunday “liquid” brunch hours with a limited drink menu. Stop in from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a sangria, bloody mary, mimosa or beer. NFL football games will be on in the background.

Heading to an Augustana football game this weekend? Don’t miss the new JJ’s Beer Garden at KO Stadium. JJ’s is set up for every home game behind the east grandstand with adult beverages, including 12 beers on taps with an emphasis on local brews.

Because of staffing issues, Taphouse41 is closed on Mondays now in addition to Sundays. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The bar and grill, which features burgers, brews and bourbon, also dropped its featured burger for Fridays – the lobster burger – citing a “dramatic increase” in the price of lobster. Taphouse41 says it will return once the price becomes “more reasonable.”

Fernson Downtown is temporarily closing its kitchen because of staffing. “We feel this is the right decision as we aim to deliver the most thoughtful experiences,” Ferguson said in a post. “In the meantime, we invite you to show love and support to our downtown neighbors by bringing their to-go food to Fernson, and enjoy the same great space, faces, and beverages.”

Here’s a new take on happy hour for breakfast. Stop in at the Sioux Falls Food Co+op from 7 to 9 a.m., order any entree and you’ll get a free drip coffee.

Flyboy Donuts are now available in more of the Get-n-Go convenience stores all around Sioux Falls as well as in Tea.

This coming Tuesday, Sept. 21, is Dining for Kids. The following restaurants will donate a percentage of their food and beverage sales to support Sanford Children’s Hospital:

  • The Attic Bar and Grill East
  • The Attic West
  • The Keg Chicken (both Sioux Falls locations)
  • Firehouse Subs (both Sioux Falls locations)
  • The Pickle Barrel
  • Chevys Fresh Mex Sioux Falls
  • The Honey Baked Ham Company

Granite City Food & Brewery is throwing an Oktoberfest bash on Sept. 18. There will be live music in the parking lot from Bobby Gripp from 12 to 2 p.m., a special tapping of Oktoberfest Marzen lager, exclusive seasonal eats and more. It starts at 11 a.m., full kitchen closes at 10 and late-night apps available until 11 p.m. Food offerings include the Bavarian Reuben, Pork Schnitzel Sandwich, Spaetzle Mac & Cheese and more, plus $3 pints and $6 growler fills.

Oktoberfest also has arrived at Lupulin Brewing. The party starts Sept. 18 at 12 p.m. with the taproom release of a Sioux Falls-exclusive Festbier, Fallsfest. New Oktoberfest mugs & steins will also be available, as well as Oktoberfest Märzen & Doppelbock.

Jared Jongeling will play live from 7 to 10 p.m.

Sadly, it’s that time. B&G Milkyway is closing the West 12th Street location for the season at the close of business on Sunday. Stop in for some closing specials.

But, just in time for the next chill in the air, cocoa bombs from Dakota Snow/Sub Zero Desserts are back in stock at Chef Ellen.

And speaking of sweets, Prairie Cocoa & Confections is closed through Sept. 22 for a family wedding.
