Restaurant Roundup: Ice cream concept turned reality, summer cocktails, new wraps

Stensland Family Farms celebrated National Dairy Month with the Stockyards Ag Experience by hosting a Create-a-Cone contest. Six-year-old Hazel was the winner, and she and her sisters got to make her flavor concept – Funfetti Oreo Cheesecake – at the creamery. The flavor will be featured from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at Falls Overlook Cafe. Kids can stop by the Stockyards Ag Experience booth for an activity and a voucher to try the new ice cream.

The new Gibs Sports Pub has started a monthly food special. For June, Chef David Ohayon has created Papapeno. Gibs’ signature smash burger is topped with Kansas City barbecue sauce, pepper jack cheese, bacon, and breaded and fried jalapenos on a pretzel bun.

Crisp & Green has introduced four Hero Wraps: Caesar Crunch, Honey Mustard, Italian Chopped and Spicy Southwest.

The pub’s annual Emerald Summer Nights started earlier this month, but there are still a few Wednesday nights to enjoy through July 10. From 3 to 6 p.m., get $2 off draught beer, well liquor, seltzers and wine; from 5 to 7 p.m., ladies enjoy free hors d’oeuvres; and live music starts at 8 p.m. Giveaways are at 6, 7 and 8 p.m., and there are a couple of vendors every week.

‘Brosia Bowl had added pre-orders for the weekly Falls Park Farmers Market for convenience and to ensure availability for customers. Menu items include breakfast sandwiches and burritos, salads, cold-pressed juices, sauces, dressing, hummus and pico de gallo. Online orders must be placed by 11 a.m. Thursdays. Umami Cafe & Catering is having a special pasta buffet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Items on the all-you-can-eat buffet will include Italian salad, garlic bread, chicken alfredo with penne, spaghetti with Ragu sauce and panna cotta. The price is $12. The regular menu also will be available. Umami is in Signature Flight Support at Joe Foss Field.

In honor of National Go Skate Day, Flyboy Donuts will donate $5 to the Sioux Falls Skatepark Association for every order of the special Let’s Skate Dozen. Orders can be placed online from now through 10 p.m. Saturday for pickup or delivery through Sunday.

The traveling food truck On the Hook Fish & Chips will be in the city Saturday. It will be selling food from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the west-side Menards.

Stensland Family Farms is celebrating the Dog Days of Summer from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday with free pup cups for dogs with any purchase. There will be fresh dog treats, an outdoor doggie pool and more at the remaining retail store at 3101 W. 41st St.

Myrtle’s Fur Vault & Bar has new aperitivo and nightcap drink specials from 4 to 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. to close Tuesday through Thursday. Before-dinner specials range from $4 gin and tonics and $5 draft beers to $7 for a martini, Manhattan or other select cocktails and $8 for select wines. Nightcaps feature four $8 drinks: Brandy Alexander, Dirty Banana, Grasshopper and Pink Squirrel.

Today, celebrating the first day of summer, The Hello Hi added 16 cocktails to the menu. “The menu takes on a unique new format reflecting the creative cocktails it displays,” co-owner Brandon De Jong said. “Now, visitors can choose from a total of 36 cocktails organized into seven categories featuring a wide variety of spirits as well as spirit-free selections.” See the full menu at thehellohi.com.

Also celebrating the first day of summer, Lupulin Brewing Co. has released Amuse Bouche. The mixed-culture saison was brewed here and has been aging for more than a year. “One part French saison, one part wild experiment, Amuse Bouche is bright and dry with big notes of lemon and peach,” the brewery said in a social media post. It’s available on tap to enjoy at the taproom or by the bottle to go.

The fourth annual Summer-Fest Homebrew Festival from the Big Sioux Brewing Society is Saturday at WoodGrain Brewing Co. Sample contest entries for free, and vote for your favorite. Hours are noon to 3 p.m. The event is open to those 21 and older.

A Homestead Brew is celebrating its seventh anniversary with a celebration that starts at 2 p.m. Saturday at the brewery east of Sioux Falls near the Iowa border. One of the new beer releases for the event is a barrel-aged raspberry sour made with 267 pounds of raspberries from the Homestead farm. Enjoy live music, the Backyard BBQ food truck and limited-edition anniversary glassware.

Look’s Beer Co. has created an alcohol-free drink. Daisy Dew Hop Water is made with Mosaic, Simcoe and Citra hops. The brewery at Look’s Marketplace suggests pairing it with citrus fruit and serving it iced. It’s available in cans or on tap.
