Oct. 26, 2023

Three Halloween cupcake designs instead of just one have been declared winners in the Oh My Cupcakes contest and will be available Friday through Wednesday. Find singles in the bakery cases or go online to order a dozen with four of each design. “Congratulations to Charles H., who cooked up the Candy Cauldron; Dehlia B., designer of the Spooky Spiders; and Zoey I., creator of the Candy Corn,” the bakery said.

For several years, Parker’s Bistro attracted Harry Potter fans with special nights featuring themed drinks. The new adjoining Myrtle’s Fur Vault & Bar is keeping the tradition going with special cocktails and more, starting at 10 p.m. Saturday. Guests are encouraged to dress up.

The downtown Halloween bar crawl is Saturday, with check-in from 4 to 6 p.m. at Rough Cut Social. Tickets include drink specials at participating bars: Falls Landing, Lucky’s Bar, Rough Cut Social, Severance Brewing Co., The Hello Hi, TommyJacks and Wileys. The crawl goes until 10 p.m., with an afterparty at Wileys until midnight. Get details and register online at Crawl With Us.

Gist Wine Shop is inviting customers to dress up for Halloween and stop in from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday for Witchy Wine Tasting. The chosen wines will be those crafted following the principles of biodynamic farming, in which they are grown and made in correlation to the lunar cycles, the shop said. The tasting is $25, but you’ll save 10 percent if you come in costume.

Here’s an uncommon menu offering but one in keeping with the spirit of Halloween. Carnaval Brazilian Grill is offering chicken hearts on its Rodizio Experience through Saturday. The restaurant also has crafted a Halloween drink menu, including the Witches’ Brew shown in the photo below with vodka, rum, blue curacao, lemonade and grenadine.

IHOP is offering its annual Halloween special. Kids 12 and younger can get a free create-your-own Scary Face Pancake from 4 to 10 p.m. through Tuesday with the purchase of an adult entree.

Sioux Falls Chef has a Halloween-themed menu for its prepared meals. There’s a 72-hour prep window, so you’ll want to order soon. For entrees, there’s “feetloaf” with mashed potatoes and spaghetti with “eyeballs.” For desserts, there are five decorated cheesecake options, mini cheesecakes, and candy corn or pumpkin truffles

Stensland Family Farms has two Halloween-themed treats. The Monster Mash sundae and Night Walker energy drink will be available through Tuesday. Fall ice cream flavors are in the dipping case too: Country Apple Crisp, pumpkin cheesecake, apple cinnamon sorbet, bleu cheese cherry nut, rum raisin and more.

The Smoked Culture BBQ & Brews has added ribs to the menu but only Tuesday nights. They’re available as racks and half-racks from 5 p.m. until they’re sold out. While the restaurant closes at 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturday, The Flat Bar now is open until 10 p.m. A limited bar food menu is available.

Daily Clean Food & Drink is hosting its first “clean” comedy night Sunday. Local comedians Skyler Bolks and Matthew Jacobsen will provide family-friendly stand-up, beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door; get a discount if you buy them in advance. A limited menu of pizzas, burgers and drinks will be available for purchase. That includes some of the new additions to the expanded menu of burgers, which include a choice of a Dakota Pure Bison burger, free-range grilled chicken breast or a veggie-packed vegan No-Bull Burger patty. There’s even one named Guy Fiery in honor of Guy Fieri, who made the restaurant one of his stops on “Diners, Drive-ins & Dives.”

Let It Fly has a new menu of $12 lunch specials that are available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. Choices include a smoked pork belly sandwich, fish and chips, Prime Rib Stacker, Reuben sandwich and the Chicken Cavatappi Vodka Sauce Skillet.

A Reese’s Pieces-filled bundtlet is the latest pop-up flavor from Nothing Bundt Cakes. It’s available through Nov. 5.

The Cake Lady has expanded her offerings to include custom 8-inch round cakes. Designs are more limited than the bakery’s larger cakes.

Mac Bowls are back at Slim Chickens, and there’s a new option to go with the Tender Mac. The Buffalo Mac features Buffalo and Cayenne Ranch sauces. The new seasonal dessert is Praline Pumpkin Cheesecake, served as always in bite-sized pieces in a canning jar.

With National First Responders Day coming up Saturday, Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews is reminding customers that all military, fire, EMS and police employees receive a 20 percent discount every day on regular-priced menu items.

As a thank-you to first responders, Firehouse Subs has a BOGO special on medium subs through Sunday for those in uniform or with work identification.

Altered Species Ales is celebrating International Stout Day on Nov. 2 with a Mini Stout Fest. Four stouts will be available in a discounted flight for $10. The new taproom on the south side of the Western Mall that eventually will feature a brewery has tweaked its hours, staying open an hour later on Thursdays and closing a little earlier on Sundays. Hours are noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, 2 to 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 2 to 10 p.m. Thursdays and noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The traveling food truck On the Hook Fish & Chips is back in Sioux Falls on Friday. Find it from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the parking lot at Tractor Supply Co. on North Cliff Avenue.

Changes in hours, service

  • The Attic Bar & Grill on the east side is open again on Mondays. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Laurie’s Cafe in Canton has stopped serving supper. The cafe had been open on Monday and Tuesday nights. The owner cited a lack of customers and her arthritis for the change.
