Restaurant Roundup: Free ice cream cones, new menus, cream puffs

Free Cone Day is Tuesday at participating Dairy Queen restaurants. Add a dip to your ice cream for $1, with proceeds going to local hospitals that are part of Children’s Miracle Network.

The new featured menu for March at Crave American Kitchen & Sushi Bar offers everything from light bites to hearty entrees. Lunch specials include the Ultimate Grilled Ham & Cheese, which comes with a cup of tomato basil soup, and Wild Caught Mahi Mahi. Dinner specials include sea scallops and steak au poivre. The Fresh Vegetable Salad and Peach & Prosciutto Flatbread are available all day. For dessert, the T-Rex Cookie Sundae is a warm half-pound chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla bean ice cream, chocolate and caramel sauces, whipped cream and chopped peanuts. Featured cocktails are Blackberry Smash and Sage Flip.

Here’s a look at the latest featured menu from 22Ten Kitchen Cocktails with dishes “inspired by home.”

The Treasury’s new menu features a fusion of flavors with items like Birria Spring Rolls and Korean Fried Cauliflower. Other dishes include Steamed Buns filled with chicken, pickled carrot and daikon; The Frenchie burger with cheese from the French Alps, pickled shallot, frise, bone marrow aioli; and Steak & Frites.

With the changing seasons, Crisp & Green has three new seasonal bowls. C’est la Viche is mixed greens, romaine, citrus and garlic shrimp, napa cabbage, pickled onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, roasted corn, lime squeeze, blue corn chips and  jalapeno lime vinaigrette. Pesto Parm Perfection has spinach, mixed greens, roasted chicken, radicchio, shaved Parmesan, roasted tomatoes, quinoa, roasted peppers and onions, lemon squeeze and pesto vinaigrette. Sunny Honey Picnic is arugula, romaine, roasted chicken, radicchio, roasted corn, roasted tomatoes, roasted potatoes, goat cheese and honey mustard dressing.

Ken’s Korner now serves Pizza Cheeks pizza. Offerings include cheese, pepperoni and supreme, with prices ranging from $14 to $16.

The Boozy Bakery at JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars has added cream puffs to its offerings. Boxes will be available Friday, and they can be pre-ordered at any time. This week’s flavors include traditional, custard or Bailey’s espresso custard. They keep best in the freezer, so that’s where you’ll find them in the store.

Chicken al Pastor is back on the menu at Chipotle for a limited time. The chain said there have been three times as many requests on social media for its return than any other limited-time offering. The grilled chicken with a marinade of seared morita peppers and ground achiote, a splash of pineapple and a finish of fresh lime and cilantro left the menu in August 2023. Choose it as the protein on any dish, or try the Most Ordered Chicken al Pastor Bowl with the flavored chicken, white rice, black beans, fresh tomato salsa, roasted chile-corn salsa, cheese and guacamole. Get free delivery on all Chicken al Pastor orders through the app or online through March 24.

Cooks & Bakers Kitchen is celebrating its first anniversary with a Blarney Bash from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Chef Omar Thornton will be serving “Irish fusion” samples, and A Homestead Brew will have craft beer. Merchandise is 20 percent off, with some exclusions.

Watch social media next week for details on the second annual Oh My Cupcakes Easter Egg Drop. The hunt for prizes begins Tuesday and continues through Saturday in city parks.

Cookie Co. has two additions to its offerings and an upcoming fundraising event. The bakery has started making cookie pops using the cookie flavors of the week, and it sells frosting in 4-ounce jars in regular and chocolate buttercream flavors. From 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, a portion of sales will be donated to Sioux Falls-based Mission-Haiti.

Tarquin Argentinian Restaurant, which also leans heavily into Italian dishes, is marking National Ravioli Day on Wednesday with five fillings. Choose from cheese, spinach, crab, portobello or beef. Prices will range from $12 to $20.

Brewhaha, an annual fundraiser for REACH Literacy, will be March 21. The event includes storytelling by local leaders, local craft beer tastings, appetizers from Salas Salsas and a silent auction. The event is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Museum of Visual Materials. Get tickets here.

M.B. Haskett Delicatessen is hosting author Katherine Miller and Chef Nettie Colon of Minneapolis for two six-course tasting meals and a book signing for Miller’s new release: “At the Table: The Chef’s Guide to Advocacy.” The dinners will be March 22 and 23, and the $150 price includes Miller’s book. Harvester Kitchen by Bryan has a new offering: Harvester Kitchen at Home. Each week, customers can order a three-course meal for two and pick it up the following week. Orders must be placed by Sunday, and customers can choose a preferred pickup time from Thursday through Sunday. The current meal is an American wagyu beef short rib bourguignon with vegetables, dinner rolls with butter, salad and a chocolate tart.

Every bar and restaurant seems to be having St. Patrick’s Day specials, but here a few new offerings and other highlights:

  • The new owners at Botski’s Bar & Grill have added Irish features to the menu through Sunday. Customers who order a featured dish on Sunday will get a free green beer.

  • A Taste of Country Catering will serve Irish food Saturday at the Old Courthouse Museum as part of a family-friendly traditional Irish music event that follows the parade. Offerings include colcannon, beef stew with Irish soda bread, frosted shamrock sugar cookies, Guinness cupcakes with Irish cream frosting, hot dogs and brats. Maggie in the Meantime, the Dakota District Pipe & Drums and Celtic Steps will perform. Admission is free. See the details here. 
  • Sioux Falls Chef is making take-and-reheat corned beef and cabbage meals in single-, double- and family-serving sizes and Bailey’s cheesecake. The food is available through Saturday and can be ordered online to ensure availability.
  • Tarquin Argentinian Restaurant is turning its occasional Sunday brunch into one with an Irish theme. Call 605-271-2027 for reservations.

Changes in hours, service

  • The latest B&G Milkyway locations to open are Tea, Brandon and Sycamore Avenue in Sioux Falls. All that’s left is West 12th Street, which has an opening date of April 2, weather permitting.
  • Credo’s Pub is making life easier for takeout pizza orders. The pub has added online ordering to its website.
